On a whim, I stopped by a local antique shop the other day, just to see what was in stock. I've never known them to have much in the way of shaving stuff, but the stock does rotate rather regularly, so I was hoping luck just might be with me. And, it was:
http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=13330
This little beaut is a full on leather(maybe? not sure if it's synthetic, but it feels like leather) bound travel kit, complete with a matching razor: :w00t:
http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=13327
And even a styptic pencil and a tube of toothpaste!
http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=13329
I'm not sure what the razor is, but it looks to me like a Gillette Tech. It matches another razor I have, which has been identified as a Tech, only it's silver rather than gold.
Now, how much do you think this whole set cost? $10. Yup. $10. The cover is in good condition, there are only a few little discolorations on the zipper (no actual rust, just some greening of the metal) and all the metal canisters inside are shiny, with minimal spots of wear. Now, I'm not 100% certain how to even use some of these little canisters, but I know next time I take a trip somewhere (anniversary, woohoo!), I'm going to figure something out.

I accumulated this lot over the weekend. Lot's of gas burned on this trek. The straight and hone belonged to my great-grandfather so are going nowhere, but I can be talked out of any of the rest of the finds. The old barber's talc brush is really cool. And the Gold Tech on the lower right is about as mint as you can get and includes the R-1 coded blades that I found with it. I've already claimed one of the Old Spice mugs as my own (note the loaded soap), but the other two are available.

You may have burned a lot of gas but DE shaving reduces your carbon footprint so it's all good. Nice finds!

Last week comming back from Seattle on the bike, we stopped at an antique store. Found a Badger brush $2.00. Much better than the Boars Brush I have been using this last month.
This week went to a junk/antique shop and picked up what looks like the original Superspeed D/E handle for $3.00. Works great, though I like my Futur much better.
These purchases were the most fun I have ever had with $5.00

Two items came for me this week:
24715
24716
The Gem was from eBay. Paid $11.34 (included shipping).
norm931 was gracious enough to sell me some Pella blades, although some lesser quality blades are on the way.
I've also seen GEM blades for sale at Walgreens in the shaving section.
Cleaned up the razor today in barbicide and look forward to using this razor this weekend.

Hello all,
I haven't got the hang of posting pix, yet, so word, words, words. This week, I've received several looked-for goodies. The nicest is a custom Shavemac set, consisting of silvertip brush w/ faux black marble handle and matching stand and stainless bowl. Moving down the line, there are two Gillete razors, a '58 Silver Tip SS w/ case and blades and a '70 black short handle Super Adjustable. I won both on the Bay, and both are in beautiful condition. They are my 1st two Gillettes, so I'm no real judge, but to me, they look new. I also received three Mama Bear soaps: Rosemary Mint, Creme Brulee, and Sandalwood & Vanilla. Finally, I picked up a colorful dessert bowl at Kroger that is already serving nicely for making great lather.
Now, I'm tapped out for the rest of July. See ya next month.

I found the brushless Barbasol and Burma Shave creams in a local antique store. Both appear to be unused. I like the look of the glass and ceramic containers . . . just torn on whether or not I want to try them. Anyone ever used these before?
The Old Spice soap I picked up in a trade and definitely will be using it this weekend.

The Gold!
On the left is a 1921 New Improved in original case. On the right is a 1936 Gillette New Red and Black in case. In the middle is a little mystery. Watch for it's own thread. Closest guess is 1941-1947 Aristocrat ... top ring has knurls? Hmmmm?

I scored a Rooney 3/1 Super and my westcoastshaving sampler. So far I've tried the Dorcos & am not impressed. I think the Merkurs were better. I've got hope for the Crystals and Derbys though; I've heard good things. Also picked up some Pinauds Clubman and a bottle of Brut AS. Buying the Brut was more of a walk down the ole high school memory lane and after splashing some on I'm reminded there's a reason high school is in the past. It's ok, but it ain't my thing anymore. Oh yeah, and the brush rocks the Casbah baby!!!!

Looks like the corn razor
Thats possible I guess, there seems to be a lot of blade exposure,
and the only mustache razor I see my Merkur is tapered on one end, this one has equal edges........good thing it was only a buck:tongue_sm
