Okay, so I did a search on here to find out about brush maintenance and care but couldn't find any of the threads I remember. I have a Vulfix Mayfair brush that is about 5 months old and I havent really done any maintenance on it. I remember reading something about using shampoo and conditioner maybe once a month or something but I am not sure. I have notice that some of the badger hairs have started to split at the end of the brush, not sure if that is normal. Thanks for your helpful comments and directions to other pertinent threads.

+1 on em's videos.
i especially recommend the step involving hair conditioner and putting glycerin in the vinegar water for the final rinse. you'll get a clean super soft brush that is really more absorbent.
it works.

I cleaned one of my ShaveMacs according to Em's process last night and I have to say I am totally impressed with how soft this brush is this morning. And I didn't even have the conditioner on hand to use this time. I will be picking some up for future use.
I had previously 'shampooed' my brushes but their softness didn't even come close to the results of Em's process. There is only a very slight vinegar scent left in the brush and I am sure it will go away when I soak it in warm water for my next shave.
This is going to become a regular part of my equipment maintenance. There's nothing like the feel of super-soft Silvertip on the face!

Thanks for all the help. I followed the instructions in the video and I think the results were more than satisfactory. I did the dish soap, then used a tooth brush to gently scrub near the base of the knot, a conditioner, and finally the vinegar rinse. I then used a tooth brush to scrub the soap residue off my razor so now it looks as good as new again. I will have to try them out this afternoon and see how it lathers and shaves. Thanks again.
