Since it is not an auction here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1917-Standard-Old-Type-Gillette-Vintage-Razor-set-BOX_W0QQitemZ360062431240QQihZ023QQcategoryZ35989Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp163 8Q2em118Q2el1247

The razor has a 1917 date code but the box has a 1921 date code ... meaning that the razor and case set are not original.

Well, it doesn't seem to say anywhere in the listing that is IS in its original box. I'll leave it to the experts here if that's a reasonable price or not, but the seller doesn't seem to be making any fraudulent claims.

I am no expert, but I would say for a mismatched set, that is a unreasonable price. I would not have been the one buying, but I appreciate you making that information known Doc!

He does too say "The Standard set consisted of a leather covered case (still snaps tightly shut) with purple velvet and satin lining with silver plated razor and 2 cardboard blade boxes, plus you get the rare shipper or box in came in." that seems fraudulent to me.

from the dealer:

"hello
the box does not match the razor i just noticed the number is n198519 also there looks to be another bnumber too but i can't read it
your welcome"

maybe he will fix the description or lower the price.
your welcome ;)

Yes, I would say it is a mismatched set. First of all the date code on the razor is that of a 1917. The set is a #466 and the box shows #460.
Also, I question the case, the pattern on the inside shows the diamond with Made in the USA on top and known the world over underneth.
My 1917 shows only Known the world over underneth. It also comes with metal blade boxes, not cardboard.
On the other hand, my 1908 came with the cardboard blade boxes.

That said, this seller usually does a fairly good job describing he's razors. So I would say it is a case of lack of knowledge more than trying to mislead anyone.

I absolutely love those old price sheets. I did not know that if you bought 12 blades they came in a nickel case. That is too cool. Thanks for that Achim.
