I had a quick question about the Crystal blades from westcoastshaving. I know a few months ago, the packaging was changed on these blades. From my understanding, the blades themselves are no different. I'm almost out of my Derbys. I have never used the Crystals before or after the repackaging.

So, my question is, for those who have used them both before and after the repackagin was done. Did the blades change at all, or are they still the same as they were before they were repackaged?

I can let you know in a couple days. I just ordered some from them today.

100 blades for $12.00 just get them anyway.

I have used both..with the same results. They are a fine blade. Not to worry about the package...just marketing stuff..

+1. WCS = great prices. Crystal = 1 of the best brands out there.

I think that they are incredible blades. I have a solid rotation now and the crystals rank in there 3rd only behind derbys and astras.

I just want to make sure, crystals are the blue packaged Israeli blades that say "super platinum"? if they are, Im really enjoying them, if not...I need to figure out what these are so I can order more.

Those are they. Wonderful blades, forgiving yet sharp.

Best,

Jay

I'm glad to hear that there does not appear to be any differences. I'm a little nervous moving from the Derby's to the Crystals. I'm also looking to pickup Dorco's just because they are so cheap. Hope I'm not making a mistake

IMO..I would skip the Dorkos...you get what you pay for. YMMV

The Crystals are 2/3's of my weekly rotation.

get some Red Israelis first before dorco... They're almost as cheap and much better to shave with than Dorcos IHMO.

Well, I took the plunge and placed the order. Including the Dorcos. I just couldn't resist them. At the price, they are just too hard to pass up. The red personnas at 10 cents a piece are still 20% more than the 8 cent Dorcos. But, you all are probably right. You get what you pay for. I hope the 20% difference is worth it

When I returned to DE shaving last November, I got some pretty decent shaves from Dorcos. As my technique has improved, using less pressure, I found that I can still get a close shave from Dorcos, but it takes a little more effort. I think Dorcos are a good blade for learning technique. Some experienced shavers use them all the time. Your final choice in blade and razor depends on quite a few things. The shape of the head on a particular razor, will detemine the approximate angle at which the blade will cut smoothly. The way the edge on a certain blade is ground effects how the blade will cut in a particular raozr. The exact way YOU hold and move a razor makes a difference as to the comfort of a shave. No two people do it EXACTLY the same. If you feel that you're getting most out of a particular razor and blade combo, then, by all means, change things one at a time to find something better. Be sure not to change too frequently though. Be sure your technique is the best it can be to give new things an opportunity to prove themselves. Be sure to properly prep your beard prior to shaving. A softened beard is much easier to cut. With good prep, even a mediocre blade can give an acceptable shave. With poor prep, even the best blade will give a mediocre shave, at best.
