The wife, say hi to the wife guys, well she wants a new digital camera. The pocket kind. What I am looking for is the one that takes a picture the fastest. You know, my current takes the pic in about 5.3 seconds, long after baby was doing handstand on one hand. I want the click and shoot but so many digitals take forever. Anyone know of something affordable, at least 6mp that shoots quicker than molasses on a winter's day?

I highly recommend getting a Canon ELPH (the SD series is excellent - I have the SD800). They have great response time in turning on and shot-to-shot. I also suggest getting one with optical image stabilization (abbrevated "IS" for most cameras), especially if you/your wife plans to use the LCD instead of a viewfinder. You're pictures will turn out MUCH better.

You could also look into the Olympus SW line. It's shock/waterproof. I almost got one of these, but the picture quality wasn't quite up to snuff with the Canon SDs. But if you want a camera that will take good pictures and you won't worry about dropping, it's worth checking out.

MP's are not important. Get yourself a Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm. You will be eternally grateful (or almost).

The Nikon is a user friendly and sturdy piece of kit. It's fast and the picture quality is beyond reproach.

It's not exactly pocketable, but the pocketable, fast shooting type does not exist.

I disagree slightly. As I said before, the Canon SD series is fast enough unless you *need* multiple shots per second. I think the SD800 gets about two shots every second in "burst" mode, and has a shot-to-shot around 1.5 ~ 2 seconds. And it's a LOT smaller than a D40. I think the point was to have a camera that can travel all the time, not just when pictures are expected.

I just got a new camera, have had it for a week now. It is a Cannon Power Shot 1100. It is tiny (purse size) and takes great photos. The MP is 8.1 I believe.
This is my second Cannon Power Shot and it is still in great working condition, it is just not purse size. My husband is going to take it on holidays and I'm taking mine.

I ended up getting her the Fujifilm finepix f50fd. I will let you all know. I started with a list of 74 cameras, wittled down to 3 and that was the winner. Its earlier model the f31fd is considered better but about $500. I got the f50fd for $200 with shipping.

We just bought a Fujifilm Finepix Z20 as a little compact camera. Funky little thing with some good features, but it struggles a fair bit with excess noise in low light shots.

I think you made the right choice. I bought a slightly used Fuji F30 last year and this is still considered as one of the best low light/compact cameras around. And you get a whopping 500 shots on one battery charge.

yeah they messed up a bit though with the f50. They went up to 12mp which drains the battery to about a half what the f30 did.:frown:
