About a month ago I posted a thread http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=46191&highlight=medical+personna
about how I helped myself to a few blades from my dermatologists office. These blades have spent the last month in my medicine cabinet until 20 minutes ago...

I really didn't plan on using them because I was afraid of karma biting me or something like that. But today I had 4 days of beard growth, and my blade already had 3 shaves on it, so I chucked it and rediscovered the naughty blades hidden beneath packages of Crystals, Feathers, etc. You get the point.

I held the blade in my hand, thinking over my previous inhibitions. What if it DOES shave my face off (compliments of sweeney todd)!!! Am I feeling the naughty blade today? Oh yes, my friends, oh yes.

I whipped feverishly away at my white porcelain bowl filled with rich, creamy Tabac lather. I scrubbed it feverishly onto my face going in all directions until I had created a glorious white beard worthy to make any mall Santa jealous. I then picked up my trusty Merkur HD, now loaded with a Medical Grade Personna and went at it.

I was careful not to dive right in. I didn't want to make a mess of myself. I started off with my usual face-long swipe to knock out my right sideburn (wtg, of course). No pulling. No blood. I took a second one right next to it also with good results. I dove in. I find myself getting bored of 30 minute shaves. I wanted to speed things up. I'm taking short strokes and contorting my face as I go. Somehow I remind myself of how Mantic shaves in his videos with short quick strokes. I swear I'm going to cut myself but I keep going, surprising myself that I am able to shave this fast. After a short moment I am done with my first pass. Still no blood. I examine myself in the mirror to find that after just one wtg pass I am left with only a shadow where my thick beard was. I could have stopped there. No irritation. But I didn't. I lathered up again, smearing lather all over the place becoming more careless by the second. I start at my face again with the bravery of a drunken Rottweiler mixing wtg and xtg. Rinse. Lather. Xtg, atg in trouble spots, hot water rinse, cold water rinse, I notice the feeling of and sound of rubber as I pat my face to a chill with the water. Then the aftershave....nothing. No burn.

The blades had given me the fastest, closest, and most comfortable shave I can remember. I believe I will go faceturbate and drink a Coors Light to celebrate.

I have always been partial to Miltex scalpel blades in anatomy lab. I wonder if they make DE blades. I havent been able to find them...

If you look at the pic on the link the blade says made in Israel. So my guess they are the correct blade. It says acuderm inc though...

Can you verify the markings on the blades?

Wait guys. The dude just got done telling you he shaved with a Medical grade plastic DE and somehow drinking a Coors Lite was degrading? What does one suggest after shaving with such an instrument. A single malt scotch? I think not. Coors Lite is completely appropriate.

Glad to hear the shave went well. I may have to pick some of these up for travel. It would solve the "How do I get my DE on a plane?" dilemma.

No Gafer! Where did you get plastic blade from anyway? Did you miss the part about loading it into my Merkur HD? They say made in USA but come packaged in a box and wrapped individually like Israeli Personnas. Each blade has 'hospital use' written on it.

If the link is to the blade described, I'm not surprised it gave really good results. It's an Israeli Red. West coast Shaving has them. Review here: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=46528

Unless of course I'm wrong and it's a blue Israeli, I can't recall the markings off the top of my head.

I can't stress this enough. The blade has "MADE IN USA" printed on it. They come wrapped like Israelis. The reason I wrote this post is because these blades as far as I can tell are hard to come by.

Right. Not Israel. USA. They're different countries. My mistake.

Given that they're wrapped like Israelis, it may be an American Safety Razor product. I understand that ASR markets blades under the name Personna, some made in Israel, some Mexico and some in the USA.

I don't know how worth pursuing they are because as far as I know you can only get them from a health provider. The did work extremely well. If I could find a way to buy them I would definitely do so.

My father in law is a doctor. I'll ask him if he has a catalog for ordering stuff like this from (I bet he doesn't though; he does most of his cutting-type work at the hospital!).

Note that my willingness to check into this in no way absolves the rest of you from trying your own angles to locate or purchase these blades.

This is what I get for scanning and not reading carefully. I thought you were talking about the surgery prep DE's commonly found in hospitals/doctors offices such as these:
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=16002&highlight=medical

It wasn't until I carefully reread your post that I realized we're talking about individually wrapped US made DE blades. Now, understanding that I would almost guarantee said blades are made by American Safety Razor. That said, I retract my assertion that a Coors Lite was the correct after shave beverage. If you got a good shave from an ASR blade then consider yourself part of the chosen few and buy a lottery ticket! Just kidding - I get good (not great) but good shaves from the ASR blades I can buy at Walmart. So, does anyone know where these mystery blades can be had?

This place sells medical grade prep blades. Some members actually like the carbon steel Gem single edge blades they sell:

I think that Persona makes most of the blades on the site that I linked.

The blade exhibit 'F' in your link has an EXTREME likeness to the ones I refer to right down to the blue wrapper. I wish I could enlarge that picture to see detail in the blade printing.

These blades are superior if they are the same I came across. Hands down fastest, most comfortable shave I've ever experienced.

Looks like they sell Israeli Blues at $14 for 100 and two things I've never seen before:

Feather's in carbon steel not stainless. From what I understand about carbon steel, these may even be sharper than the stainless. Hmmm:cool:

And now how's this for cool: A DE blade with three holes just like they used to make in the 1920's. I wonder if these will fit the old Gillettes like my Bostonian or my NEW or my Merkur slant. Extra cool.

Any opinions about their injector blades or the single-edge blades here? I know of the thread on Ted Pella blades, but I need injector blades too, so a one-stop order would be nice.

Also, interesting point about the carbon steel feathers. If they're sharper than stainless Feathers...damn.

If I'm not mistaken, the medical grade Personna safety razor blade is the exact same as the normal Personna. The only difference are the markings. They do this so they can charge the hospital 100x more per blade.

I've been interested in the hospital ones as well.

Also, I've used the blue wrapped ones (Personna Super) with great success. Another member send me some. I would buy more, but I don't really want to spend $40 on blades...it would have to be a group buy. I've only ever seen them 250 for $40.

The face guard blades look interesting.

One more after thought: I should go visit my mother at the hospital in which she works.

It's for shaving an area for surgery (that's what Wapi straight razors were made for, too). Might be easier to handle over a larger area than a regular handled disposable.

(And, as someone else mentioned, they come 10 to a pack for $10, so they are $1 each, not $10 each.)

I'm working on getting access to these through my buddy's wife who sell medical supplies. She got my a case of quick clot at cost last year, and I have to say that the markup on that stuff is scary.
