I have been shaving with a DE for a while now (Merkur HD) but I can never seem to get BBS on my chin but do so everywhere else. I contribute this to the fact that the chin is a difficult area to shave and I know the direction to which the hair grows on my chin already. I know its down to my technique and it needs improving so how do you guys shave the chin area to get that BBS shave?

The chin was difficult for me, too. It eventually smoothed out after I got more experienced with a DE. Sorry I can't help you any further, good luck!

It sounds antithetical, but a more aggressive razor is often the answer. Use a careful angle and no pressure.

+1. Also, this might sound silly, but when I shave my chin, I make sure the blade is drenched in hot water so it glides easier over the skin. It very nearly always works.

+1 I was having a similar problem. After changing to a slant which has quite a bit of blade exposure, I started getting BBS shaves on the chin as well. Lots of beard prep is equally important.

I have a goatee. The problem kind of solves itself like how I shave under my nose w/ a mustache.

For me, a lot of blade buffing is the only way I can get my chin BBS.

For me blade buffing across the grain usually gets me there. Of course, this was after about a year of DE shaving.

My chin required the following adjustments to my procedure:
1. Sharper blade - went from Derby to Feather.
2. Longer strokes- I would mentally think of cutting through the hair and not just hacking at it.
3. Manipulating the chin - pulling the skin down towards my chin.

Great thread. Keep the ideas coming!
I also struggle with my chin and the curve right under my jaw bone. They're the only areas that I have almost never gotten smooth.
Have you tried XTG on your chin?

I pull the skin tight and go against the grain. Works fine!

My shaves are N-S, center-out, out-center, and S-N, so I go in all four directions. I have a Pomco Slant, but it tears me up at times, and I lack the patience to use it exclusively for a week or two in order to get the technique down.
I do need to try stretching the skin a bit. That might help with the angles issue.
