Has anybody tried this 8000 ceramic hone from Lee Valley?

Haven't used it - but it looks REALLY small - and for the $ a Spyderco UF (ceramic) would work better.

Thanx Joel. That's kinda what I figured. Any ideas on a Canadian source for the Spyderco hone?

I'd try a few google searches. I am sure any spyderco dealer would either have them - or be able to order them.

I've got one, and use it regularily. It's a little shorter and a little wider than a traditional barber hone. It's always done a good job for me.

Thanx Graham. I was hoping it would work similar to a barber hone. I was given a Lee Valley gift certificate and thought I might get this hone as I have the Norton 4000/8000 already.
Cheers

I should point out that I've never used any other 8000 grit hone, and that I have up to this point gone about my honing very carefully, so I can't tell you
whether this one is "slow" relative to other hones. Looking back, I'd guess that the razors I've honed using this, together with my Grand-dad's old bench hone and a paddle strop treated with .5 micron green paste, have taken an hour apiece on average to sharpen.
If you've already got the Norton 4/8, you might consider the paddle strop that Lee Valley sells, as a use for your gift certificate. It's a useful little item, too.
Best Regards
Graham
