hey im16 and have dark and heavy growth. atm i shave with a gillette fusion, a badger brush and propr shaving cream/soap, but i may start using a DE. is it really worth it? are there any guys here who get a very good shave using a fusion or similar?
Thanks
Hey Buddy,
I'm 18 and I've been using a brush, cream and DE for around six months. Prior to that I used a gillette sensor and sometimes a fusion. I now get a much better shave with my super speeds and other de's with much less irritation than with the multi blade razors. IMHO, using a de with good technique gives much better shaves than multi blade razors. Try a DE and if its not for you then you still will have the fusion.

If you have fast beard growth, a DE is definately the way to go. You will notice a much closer shave, which means it will take longer to get stubbly again!

..what vior said..
And WELCOME! Check out the B/S/T area.. You might be able to score a nice DE for next to nothing.
Personally, DE all the way. I made the switch almost a year ago and there are few things I enjoy as my morning shaving ritual. It's my ten minutes of Zen and I can't imagine starting off my day any differently.
Very cool that you're already using a brush, too. You're 2/3 of the way there!

Buddy - welcome to B&B. With the cost of Fusion cartridges you ought to at least give a DE a try.

Welcome!
+1 on all the good advice. Get yourself a DE. A slight learning curve will yield a lifetime of great shaves.

Welcome, Buddy Bahama!
If you take a look at the number of members, and the number of B&B members online at any given time, I think you can answer your question very easily.
You can get a lot more good shaves in your lifetime than most of us older "badgers". :badger:
Don't wait any longer... start now!

I am just getting into DE shaving. A person on here was kind enough to send me a Super Speed with some Derby blades and it is looking very good.
My main issue wuth the fusion is the amount of pressure you have to apply and the fact for me, a blade lasts no more than five shaves.

I personally hated the Fusion when I was using it, found the Mach 3 to be much better. Both are crap compared to a DE though, honestly its worth the switch.

I don't have any experience with the Fusion. They always cost too much for me to bother using. Before I found DE shaving I was using BIC Comfort 3 disposables. For me they worked as well or better than the Mach3, and they were a lot cheaper. Even still, they cost more than a dollar a pop.
It really does seem to defy logic, but you really can get a closer, more comfortable shave with a DE. That and they are just downright cool little toys to own.

Welcome to B&B!
I'll add my .02 in support of using a DE. I used to use a Mach 3 or Quattro, and razor burn was my constant companion. It isn't a problem with the DE.

Welcome to B&B :thumbup1:
as others stated there is a learning curve with DE but I also think once you get there the shave is much better then and cartridge razor, not to mention the money you could save versus cartridges

Welcome to B&B. Starting to shave "correctly" using a DE is definitely worth it especially at such a young age. I wish I had started using a DE when I first started shaving. And remember Buddy... Stay in school.

Welcome to B&B. If only the majority of us had the sense to start shaving with a DE when we were teenagers...Oy...the suffering we would have avoided. Price (and environmental impact) should be enough to ditch the Fusion and move to a DE. Once the technique is down, you will be getting your friends addicted to something safe at a young age.
It will take some time to learn how to use a DE. But it is so worth it

I'd say its definatly worth trying i personally went from mach 3 to a straight but im going to start DE shaving for when i travel. I didnt start straight shaving due to cost but looking at the price of mach 3 blades now its ridiculous about 5 pound for 3 blades from the supermarkets. and a blade would last mabye a week if used daily. Plus there is plenty of advice on here you are in the right place to learn.

Just curious Buddy, what is keeping you from trying the DE???

I've found that a DE handles heavy growth (if your beard grows fast OR you don't shave every day) MUCH better than a multi-blade. My M3 would get clogged like nobody's business if I shaved after three days of growth. My DE? Handles it without a hitch.
