I went down to the junk store looking for an ice bucket and came back with this, well all except the Barbasol which came Friday. No ice bucket though.

Very nice. They all look in good condition! Did you clean them already? What is the one to the left of the Lady Gillette?

MTgrayling
05-19-2008, 01:53 PM
Yes I cleaned them and the case, everything was filthy and the case had so much dust the glass was opaque and the wood brown! The one left of the lady Gillette is the two piece Barbasol, it's really heavy and seems well made. I have no idea what the one to the right of it is there are no markings whatsoever.

Nice score Chris! I really dig that case! I have seen those barbasol razors for sale, but without putting it next to something else you can't see how big they are. Very cool!

After seeing the magnifiscent restoration by MTgrayling, I remembered seeing a fuller brush exactly like it at one of my local antique dealers and ran out to purchase it. (now if I could only find the thread describing the 20mm silver tip swap out!):blushing:

Oh yeah, the Geneva Cutlery Corp. / Geneva N.Y. straight is pretty sweet too!

Ivory Moss Scuttle from Sarah Bonnyman. Wow, she really knows how to pack things. I am pretty sure I could've run over that box with a car without harming the scuttle. Had a shave with warm lather this morning, and wow, she could charge double, and it would still be worth it

I actually found these a few months ago but only now getting round to posting them.

Seven Limoges Bernardaud "Bristol" cups, evenly cylindrical so they stack perfectly on top of each other, porcelain but well glazed and heavy (enough) bottomed so they sit well in the sink, and....the trim matches the gold, yellow, and white scheme of the bath.

No more x2 $ for wooden bowls. Refill cakes all the way.

My first aquisition post... I feel a sense of impending doom.

Today I went and picked up a Heritage shaving mirror that I'd ordered. On the way back I popped into an old fashioned "drogist" (drugstore). They had some Merkurs in a cabinet. I bought a Slant, might wait till the weekend before I take the plunge.

Then popped into the C&E just behind. It's actually called Woodleaf and Furn. (sic) and is closing down. 30% off everything.
Bought Harris Arlington pre and aftershave, and a refill of Arlington soap.

Also ordered 100 Derbys, and TOBS lavender cream, and a cake of Haslinger marigold all should arrive today. All from Barbershop Classics here in NL.

Now I need to stop buying stuff and start using it up.

must try to take a photo of it all.

My God this is a lovely hobby!

First DE razor aquisition!

I was out and about and decided to stop at the local antique store. I was looking about and caught my eye on a big jar of DE's. Various vintages and conditions. I had a scrummage about, trying not to catch my fingers on the rusty blades still in some. I narrowed it down to a Gillette Tech and a Rocket HD. $10 changed hands and I returned home to clean them up! YES!

Well, kinda. The HD had a defect that I didn't notice earlier, just slightly tilting to one end of the head. I got some advice and tried straightening it against a wooden block. Small give...ok...almost there...BIG GIVE! The head snapped off. Great.

Oh well, still ended up with a pretty good, clean Tech for $10. Not bad considering it was made on the exact opposite side of the world... :D

I was out looking at antiques (already have an ice bucket:001_smile) with my wife yesterday when I stumbled across this nice display case. The price (I thought) was already a steal, but I managed to talk them down another $15 dollars or so:biggrin:. It only needed a bit of dusting to make it more presentable. It now houses a portion of my daily shavers. I do need to mention (and especially thank) CJbianco, and Lost Dog for the Krona and Ladies Gillette. These were PIFs, and I am very grateful for their generosity. My wife has been converted and enjoys the ladies Gillette. No more cartridges in this household:w00t:

The other pics show the Sticky and Bostonian I purchased through the B/S/T and a Schick travel injector acquired from the bay. I was amazed at just how solid the Schick is. I haven't weighed it yet, but would guess probably close to 1/2 pound.

I had a bunch of other stuff arrive in the mail this week (B/S/T purchases) to include:
Speick A/S
Swiss Pitralon
Floid
Tabac soap w/bowl
CF cedar/sandlewood Cream

I paid $110.00 for the lot you see in the photo below, except the Barbasol razor. I think that may be on the high side, but I got a really awesome deal on a bucket of razors from this shop before so I try to give a little back every time I go in. The picture is after being cleaned so they were not all nice and shiny to begin with.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h89/csbswMT/Gillettedisplay_1_1_1.jpg

I've been looking for a nice display for months and the shipping on eBay, while mostly reasonable for the size and fragility of the item, was always a deal breaker.

 Very nice Chris! I am jealous.
