Hi Gents,

I have a Dovo 5/8 blade (new) which due to my first poor attempt at honing is incredibly blunt. I have been reading the great advice on this site and have ordered a belgium blue and a yellow. I also have a strop and a small box of Dovo strop paste, which contains two small cubes of paste wrapped in foil, one red the other black.
I was going to use the blue belgium, then the yellow, and then finish with the black paste on the leather strop.

In your experience should that be enough?
Secondly, regarding the paste can you advise me as to what micron the red and black paste might be, and how would you advise using the belgium stones i.e wet or dry.

After my first debarcle with the straight (it was obviously not shave ready), I purchased a Dovo Shavette and use it every day with great results.
But, I am determined to make that 5/8 shave ready even if it kills me.......... it sits in my cupboard staring at me,it won the first battle drawing blood but I will tame the beast and make it earn its keep :mad3:

You should be able to get it shave-ready using the yellow coticule.
Build some slurry and use de x-pattern until you build the bevel, then continue with only water and no pressure to polish it.
After that, 50 - 70 trips on your strop and it should be ready.

The dovo strop pastes are too coarse for finishing on i should imagine. The red paste is 2-4 micron according to classic shaving. The black paste mabye okay for finishing but i cannot find the grit for this.

on the blade. Keep your strokes consistant or one mistroke will ruin 20 good laps.

I perfer Chr on balsa as a finishing touch and then shave.

Good luck

Unfortunately I have already loaded the strop woth the black paste, its not on their very thick,as you can see the pink leather underneath. How could I clean the strop enough to re apply with Cro. Its a nice strop and I'd hate to think it was ruined.

With a waterless cleaner like Goop or GoJo. It'll take several applications to clean the strop.
