Looking to get a DOVO classic black HCS 5/8 from either classicshaving or vintageblades.com. My question is on the honemeister. Do they have equal HM's or is one better than the other? At classicshaving, they say wait up to 4 weeks. On VB, they say immediate delivery. What do you guys think? I also want to get a puck of col. conk but CS no longer carries them but VB does. Also, I want a 3" artisan latigo strop from VB but I dont know if I should get it from them or Tony Miller's site because VB doesnt have the upgraded linen option. So I can only make up my mind if I know which honemeister to go with. Thanks.
Vintage and CS both send the razors to the same honemeister - Lynn.
Vintage lists the Classic Black you are looking for as being available pre-honed -- if that is up to date, that will save you the wait.

Yea I think you are right, I still need to contact them about it.

I don't think I've ordered from Classic Shaving, but I highly recommend Vintage Blades. Shipping is fast, prices are better, and Jim was nice enough to include a letter with my purchases.
As I understand it, Classicshaving sends the razor to Lynn when you order it, and Vintageblades keeps a stock of honed razors on hand for guys to order ... so if you order one that isn't honed-in-stock, it has to get mailed to Lynn anyhow.
Both are good internet vendors, IMHO&experience

+1 on that. Based on what you are looking for at the moment I would go with VB and get it much sooner. I would also go to Tony Miller for the strop as none are better.

Old...,
You can't go wrong in dealing with either Vintage Blades or Classic Shaving, both are top shelf, although if you want Thiers Issard razors you need to deal with Classic. For those of us with the various straight razor associated acquistion disorders, we are lucky to have two such fine sources of "medicine" with which we are able to treat our afflictions.:wink2:

Both are excellent vendors. My Dovo came from Vintageblades pre honed and my TI from Classicshaving. For me it takes a week UPS ground from Vintageblades since I'm on the west side of the country. Classicshavig is 2 days since it's my neighboring state. Both are always on my shopping list and both have their razors pampered by Lynn.

I will add my two cents, which is the same as the others two cents: both are great vendors. As I recall, they do use the same Honemeister.

BuT VB has a pre-honed razor already in stock ready to be shipped and CS still has to send it out to Lynn. I live not too far from the classicshaving headquarters (lol).

Really, if you don't feel like waiting 4+ weeks I would not hesitate and order it from VB. It will be a long waiting week but once it's in your mailbox you'll be jumping joy.
It always makes me laugh to see how man 'in general' are like small kids. Waiting anxiously for their new toy.
On the other end of the spectrum you have the female authorities that look upon us and tell us to grow up and start acting like adults. hahahahahaha
But then again most of the time you can make a woman jump joy with a new pair of shoes and flowers. :001_tt2:

Its too bad that they dont carry the genuine linen side as part of the strop I wanted from Tony Miller. Id rather order it from VB. Unless it doesnt matter much, what do you guys think? They also dont have a practice strop with it either. I want the 3" artisan red latigo with Dee rings.

Personally, I love the linen but there seems to be a high degree of subjectivity judging by comments on here and elsewhere. The practice strop would swing it for me though, incredibly well priced and doubles well as a travel strop.
