:w00t: Well out of mere frustration with this whole wet shaving thing, I broke down and got some King Of Shaves gel and KOS shave oil. I have tried several different combinations during the last few weeks and have had poor to average results. My face has become quite dry and irritated and so out of desperation to try to find anything that gave me a close shave without feeling like my face was on fire, I broke down and committed one of the cardinal sins of true wet shaving and used some goo. I was actually surprised at how close a shave I got and my face has no irritation. I showered, then applied the shave oil then the shave gel over top. Made one pass N-S, then S-N and some XTG touch up. Had to reapply the shave oil a few times but had no redness or burning afterwards. I even used a feather blade. I really am surprised at the results. I've read some of the reviews on KOS prducts and none of them have been really great but so far this has honestly been my best shave.

there is good shaving goo, nivea makes excelect "canned goo", but its only on par with low end creams and soaps, and the propellent gas tends to dry your skin,

there is no shame, i pull out my can of nivea oil control shaving gel once in a while when i dont feel like whipping up some decent lather, but i assure you, once you get your brush technique down and find a cream/soap that fits you well, the canned goo will be there for emergencies and when you´re just too lazy to whip up some lather,

consider it an emergency mesure, lots of members here also have a sensor or a mach 3 hidden under the sink for when they need to be presentable in a space of time that does not allow them to do a proper DE shave, but you will have a hard time getting them to admit it :)

i actually like the king of shave shaving gels. i have used them all. except for the alpha gel that crap is way too expensive. i honestly think that they are the best non wetshaving shave stuff out there. i would always get a pretty good shave with it and my face never felt dried out or anything.

I've only tried their Pre Shave oil, the tea scented one. I bought it on a whim, but it works superbly. If I decide to use it, I use it on the last pass touchups. I've found that if you use too much, it will leave your face greasy a bit. They seem to have pretty decent products and price.

I am interested in the KOS magnetic goo. Interesting concept, I wonder....

Different strokes for different folks i say. Canned products and preshave oils work well for you, but for me they leave my face feeling terrible and the shave is unfullfilling.

On only one occasion did I have to use canned goo....it was edge gel...IMO the best way for this to work (emergency situations only of course!!!) Is to use a dollop about the size of a $.50 piece...then whip it up good using both hands until it is really foamy. It will do in a pinch and not plug up your DE. If you don't whip it up, it will clog your DE right away. YMMV. I hope I never have to try this again anyway...

If 'goo'works better on your face why boher with soaps and creams? It's your own face, do whatever works best for you, don't consider it a 'sin'. In the end the only thing that matters is the result, not the gear you used.

In my pre-B&B days (and a few times since), I used to squirt a little Edge or whatever gel I had into my Williams mug to firm up the lather a little. I always got decent results. I guess it was my primitive idea of superlather.

Well put. That's why we are here...to share our ideas and opinions...Personally I really enjoy the multiple options and wonderful scents "whipped up" with a brush and cream or soap.....but to each his own...no sin, no shame...

If the goo works for you that is great, but there is a clue here that has not been scrutinized yet.

You said you shaved in the shower. Have you been able to try this using a hand-made lather?

Your great shave may be a by-product of the high heat/high humidity conditions in the shower.
