I am sad beyond belief. I have been shaving only about 4 months but have come pretty far. I bought a razor in that big internet dung pile called E-Bay.
It was a German 6/8 with silver steel, 3 pin black scales that had a little plaque attached that said "Vaterland" and I paid $19.50 to my door. I cleaned it up, re-pinned it and shaved with it. The shave was the best most comfortable that I have ever had. It was forgiving and cut very well. A couple of days later I DROPPED it! Just a nick, I can hone that out. Oh no it had a 1/4" crack in it! Is there any way that I can find another? I am sick!
later,
Richard
What razor are looking for and what did you have?

Just keep running searches on Ebay and see if you can find something in similar condition. Sorry about the nick and crack. You know you can hone out the nick and its still most likely usable with a crack. It just doesn't look as good.

I guess what I was impressed about is that a no name razor shaved so well.
I do not know why this blade was so clean but it said "silver steel". I am thinking that there are a lot of razors out there that are simply marked made in Germany that are really great shavers. I think it was a 6/8 full hollow ground.

"Silver Steel" is from Sheffield, England. I believe there are quite a few razors with "Silver Steel" that were ground in Soligen, Germany. You should be able to find something nice like that although probably easier to find in a 5/8.

Did it look something like this? BTW, my condolences on the damage to your razor.

Yes along those lines. How does it shave?

Pretty good so far. I've been restoring this one, and working on getting the edge "there." I like the size, and it feels just slightly less flexible than some other full hollow ground razors that I have or have had. Reminds me that I should take another test shave with it.
The funny thing--
I had gotten this all honed up, and at some point managed to nick the edge. I dicovered it when I went to strop it, and got scratch lines across the leather. I was like WTF! I had to go back to the beginning, removing the nick, and restore the edge. I think I got it better this second time too.

Bummer, the nick should be able to be honed out fairly easily. You may just have to live with the crack.
