Has anyone tried shaving with this or adding it to a shave cream?

Shea butter won't lather on its own.

However, its a great addition to soap/cream and there are several offerings that include shea butter in them.

Thanks for the info. I got it to add to shave creams anyway

If you add shea butter to a cream, it might ruin/alter its lathering properties.

I'm nut sure what shea butter product you're using, but shea butter is quite heavy and I would use a light hand if you're determined to experiment.

One possibility (and I've not tried this) is to apply a little shea butter to your face before lathering on the soap - sort of like a shave oil. This would likely help you experiment with quantity as well as ensure that the shea butter is properly incorporated into the shaving cream.

Depending on your skin type, the shea butter might make a good moisturizer/balm on its own.

Let us know how this works.

Planning on using shea body butter form the bodyshop. It's like a thick shave cream already

"Like a thick shave cream" isn't the same as actually being a shave cream.

This stuff is moisturizer and will not lather. If used on its own, it will almost certainly clog up your razor, so if you want to use this brushless, use a small amount.

If you add this to your shave cream, I don't think you're going to get good results, but there's no harm in experimenting...

It would likely make a good balm/moisturizer - especially in dry/cold weather.

If you look at the ingredients:

Water (Solvent/Diluent), Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) (Emollient), Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao) Butter (Emollient), Cyclomethicone (Emollient), Glycerin (Humectant), Glyceryl Stearate (Emulsifier), PEG-100 Stearate (Surfactant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Babassu (Orbignya Oleifera) Oil (Emollient), Beeswax (Emulsifier/Emollient), Lanolin Alcohol (Stabiliser/Emollient), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Fragrance (Fragrance), Methylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Modifier), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Caramel (Colour), F D & C Yellow No 5 (Colour)

Its typical Bodyshop stuff - decent quality, decent ingredients, but lots of stuff that definitely isn't organic or natural (not saying this is "bad", just saying its typical Bodyshop in that they pretend to be earthy, but this isn't reflected in their products).

There are several products like this on the market. I have access to pure shea butter products and think shea butter is great stuff - so if you're curious, seek out something that's basically just shea butter - not for shaving, but for hand/skin care.

Let us know how your experiments go - you never know what will work for you!

Shea butter is an excellent addition to glycerine-based soaps!
