I believe the handles are plastic. Atleast they are on some of the years.

Some years are plastic, but the majority are metal. Definitely a weight difference between the two (I don't have a plastic version on hand to compare right now, but that's my recollection, at least).

According to all the dudes in that thread that opened theirs those are metal handles.

I've a '66 and a '76, both are black painted metal handles, probably plastic handles started later than that
