Sometimes discussions on here can get pretty intense. People talk about a broad range of topics, often speaking sincerely about issues that are near and dear to them. Now, I like to think that we're all gentlemen (and ladies) here, but sometimes someone will make a comment that just tickles my funny bone, and tempts me to post a response that is highly innapropriate. I find this happens alot with topics that require a certain amount of decorum, especially threads about the deaths of celebrities--the latest being about Charlton Hesston's passing. What we need is a place to post those immature, tasteless thoughts so we can get them off our chest, and share them with others who won't be offended and can appreciate "off-colour" or macabre humour. So I propose you post those offensive thoughts here, where they won't sully the original thread that spawned them.

Without further ado, here's the thought that started this (truncated for brevity and emphasis):

Love him or hate him, the man gave a damn about things and did something about it.

Yeah, but did he give a damn, dirty ape about them?

Oh so this is what "Beating a dead horse" means... got it
He's dead man.. I do not see the point of a discussion like this.
I have no opinion about him, by the way

Just a point of clarification, this thread applies to any other thread on the boards... it's not just limited to the Charlton Hesston thread. Think of it as firewall for innapropriate thoughts.

a rant thread... I have dreamed of that before. I have my opinion about gun control and even more inappropriate opinions about gun possession... but... You ain't gonna change the views of the gentlemen here... it's just not worth it.

I appreciate your idea but I doubt that it makes sense. Appropriate, inappropriate, who decides? If one feels that his thougths are inappropriate then he should keep them to himself, not getting rid of them by carrying them in public.
And issues that one sees as appropriate (e.g. gun control) seem to be inappropriate, even unethical to some of the gentleman out here.
Maybe I will only read the razor forums in the future. Discussions about real issues seem not to make much sense here...

After I moved to the USA I discovered that the platitudes and obvious ideas of one culture are the blasphemies of another.

Well it's nice to see I'm not the only one with a morbid sense of humor! I've gotten used to keeping my mouth shut about such things, as no one seems to share my sarcastic approach to dealing with death.

i think a rant section could be cool.most people here have diverse views and can usually remain civil in most postings.but a rant section would let people really let go.just not sure how long it would last.

I think that in order for this to work as intended, usernames would have to be invisible to everyone except the mods...that way, a person could express their opinion without being directly attacked by someone with opposing view, but knowing the mods know who says what, the civility will still be present to a degree

Sadly, the quickest way to change an adult from being an adult to a raving, frothing @ the mouth lunatic is to disagree with him/her and then provide facts as to why you believe that they are wrong.

Many tend to develop a belief system that they call their own-if an idea fits, they accept it-if it doesn't it's discarded. But woe to the individual who proffers an idea that explodes in their brain and causes that belief system to crumble!

I too have a morbid, sarcastic sense of humor(well, at least its funny to me-see above:wink:) but I make it a point to stay above(out of) the fray whenever possible because most people take disagreement with what they believe as an attack upon their person-even if the other person just wanted an honest discourse.

Its like the point I make @ work- disagreeing is not disloyalty.

Talk about missing the point, gang! Look, I didn't mean this as a "rant" :incazzato thread-- Far from it... though, a rant thread might be a good idea-- something like an anonymous shoutbox. But that's not what I had intended. I was thinking more along the lines of this example:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My uncle fell off the roof. He impaled himself on a garden gnome. I'm so sad about it.

Wow! I bet he doesn't have the guts to do that again!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

You see, the response to that original statement would have been a very tacky thing to say to the person who just lost his uncle, but, some might see the humour in it and appreciate the levity. I'm one of those people who deals with tragedy by using humour, and I dare say I'm not alone in this. I figure there are more than a few on here who laugh "at the wrong thing" and would like a place to drop those left-handed statements--exorcise that demon if it were.

I obviously didn't make it clear what I was trying to do with this thread, and now I kind of wish I hadn't started it all.

When I was in a wheelchair the biggest joke was "don't get up". Sure it's funny the first five times, but trust me, it wears thin after a while.

I think it's important to see the humor in things, but not everyone has the same sense of humor. I respect that you're trying to start a separate conversation on the topic rather than hijacking the original thread, but I think it's already covered sufficiently.

I just meant it as a place to throw those "one-off" comments-- not really a place for conversation, but just a place to pop off a one-liner regarding any other thread on the boards.

Exactly! I guess I just didn't put in words right, or maybe some things just don't translate easily enough in type. It's like typeing an impression of William Shatner---it's---just---too---hardto--transssslate, Spock! Bones! ensign Smith----prepareto---beam--------tothesurface.

We do have a place to post inappropriate thoughts. It's called the internet.

Seriously. I'm often surprised at what people (myself included) feel approrpiate to say to a world full of strangers that they would probably never say in their own living room in front of their family.

That being said, I also find it refreshing. Unless your advocating crime or causing injury to children or an animal, it's often educational. But not necessarily in a way that reflects positively on the poster.

I think many folks suffer from two maladies:

1. Everyone on the internet is just like me (same race, same gender, same political beliefs, same religious beliefs, etc.). Very few stop to think that there are others (including children) that read these (or any other) forums.

2. One-upsmanship. Many folks (myself included) feel we can spout the pithy, irrefutable remark that will shut down all opposition with some nice Mark-Twainish humor. Guess what? Very few of the folks on the webs (I'd say probably less than 0.1%) are that person.

All the above IMHO, meant respectfully, and YMMV.

I feel that, as far as the voting process is concerned, your effort to get your candidate elected should be limited to the casting of your vote for that candidate, not trying to weaken the opposing party by voting in their primary.

Imagine! Voters attempting to influence the outcome of a presidential election without consulting the special interests and party bosses.

I can't believe he's dead at such a young age. He was one of the few political commentators I could tolerate, and I actually enjoyed his personality, and it really did come as a shock that he's gone. I'll miss him on "Meet the Press" and I'll probably miss his little whiteboard come this years election.

But he still looked like a muppet.

Oh, to hell with it. I'm gonna anyway:
