I know nothing about them and was wondering if Wacker Str8s are as good as Dovo or TI?

Many thanks,
DaveS

I've seen comments both pro and con about them. I have one and find it to be a good shaver. Is it as good as a TI? probably not.

I have one. It's alright, just nothing spectacular. I won't be buying another. I prefer the TI to it.

Thanks for the info. I guess my razor will be a TI.

There's a review under the straigh razor review section.

I have one, it shaves fine. Mine is quite hard and honing can be a bit tricky.

My view - decent razors, but not worth the money. My $100 Friodur, not to mention my vintage Sheffield razors are all higher up in my rotation.

I have one and it is a nice shaver. Fit and finish on it are great. They get a bad rap around here but I think the problems associated with them are indicative of a lack of vendor quality control and/or care. I think it is a better shaver than some of my new TIs but probably not as good my historical/NOS TIs.

I have a couple of Wacker shavers and would echo the comment about being somewhat harder to hone. Other than that, they are very good shavers.

They are a hard steel. The one I have seemed to take a harsh edge I can't soften. Nothing wrong with the razor, just doesn't float my boat. I would rather spend my money elsewhere. As always YMMV

Hi,

I'm a great fan of Herr Heribert Wacker razors. :)
I have seven.

He sells blades that have different quality.

I have 2, and they are all very hard tempered stiff blades, being this they are harder to hone, but once you get them there they stay for a very long time.

Wacker blades are at #3, and #5 in my rotation. You just need to know how to smooth out a super hard tempered blade like this. I found that about 200 passes on newspaper really did the trick for mine.

Thanks for the tip on the newspaper. I will have to try that out. I have been working on the edge on mine but it always seems like it is just not quite there.

Mine all felt coarse off of 0.5 CrO, and 0.25 DP, but the newspaper trick really smoothed out the edge, and My Wacker Dorko 7/8 which I use at least 2 days a week has kept that smooth edge with no trouble for several months. No signs of edge break down or dulling. In fact it still feels like it did the day I honed it.

I got one of the Wackers from the Shaving Shop. I really like it. The newspaper trick might be worth a shot, though.

My Wacker Stippleback improved quite a bit with the newspaper.

Just goes to show you've got to understand the blade's personality as much as anything else...
