Found this at an antique store today...should I open it? How old do you think it is? I don't know much about injectors, but knew this was a good find. Mint unopened in package. Should I break the cellophane and take a peek inside, or keep it sealed?

C'mon! How could you NOT open it?
I would just have to take a peek.

I guess it depends - if you think you'll ever re-sell it. It's probably worth more sealed.

My wife and I talked about this situation the other day as we were walking through an antique store. There were several items that had not been opened and had probably been purchased, placed in a closet and then sold once the original owner passed. They did not enjoy that item and it probably went to an auction. If it were me ,and I wanted to use it I would. If you are buying it for resale ,then it's a different story.

I'd prolly open it up and use it.......no sense it buying it otherwise....

Yes, open it and use the blades (or at least a few). Also take photos for us to see!

I'm sorry guys but I just can't do it. These injectors are worth a dime a dozen but it is rare to have one unopened. I think most of the value would be diminished as soon as I opened it, just like a new car. I've fought with this all day long but I'm leaving it sealed, like king tut's tomb. I'm fairly certain now that its from 1946-47. I only paid $9.50 for it, and I already have some injectors.
A side note. I live in the heart of a ton of antique stores all around me. That's good and bad for the collector. Every time I go into one lately, the owners poke and prod you into telling them what you are looking for. I used to tell them, but not anymore. That's how they keep their finger on the market for items, thereby raising prices. I keep getting told that the DE's are going like hotcakes and everyone is looking for them now. Damn. Keep B&B a secret amongst true collectors and not dealers.

Good decision. Pick up another Injector and shave with it, the shave is the same and your are not diminishing value.

I am all for using a razor, but there are not many of these out there, and there are collectors who would give you several usable razors for something like this.

Easy solution. Lie like a rug. And if DE's are in demand--it is by ebay hacks not shavers. Considering the price jumps over the last month or so I am sure every ebay hillbilly with a trailer and a dream are out scouring the heartland for anything that could hold a blade.
If people would stop paying $125 for fat boys on ebay the market would ebb and we could all get back to finding deals. So endeth the lesson. Peace be with you.

I picked up these two razors this weekend for $1 each. Thanks to the guys on another thread I started for identifying them as a '59 Fatboy and a Tech. I'm pretty new to all this so I didn't really know what I found, just that it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

I picked up a Ball Tech and blue tip Superspeed today at a local antique shop. $8 for both. Great condition.
Date codes are Y2 and A2.
Photos attached - one before cleaning, one after.
I also won an auction for what looks like a Gillette New - could anyone help me with dating/identification? Here's a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120239279591

This Merkur Slant & Chrome Case just came in today. The case shined up really nice. It even had the Merkur blades in a plastic case. As I have not used any Merkur blades do they come in clear plastic cases? I am looking forward to using this razor. The flash made the for the rust color effect in the picture on the razor & blade holder only, they are nice & shiny.

MTgrayling outbid me on the so called English Super Speed that I thought might be a rocket so I went for a walk down a street I know and picked up this instead in an antiques shop. It was tagged at £9.50 ($19) but before I could make an offer the shopkeeper said I could have it for £8 ($16). So I bought it. I hope I didn't make a mistake:smile: I cleaned the old soap off with a toothbrush and it came out like this:

Wow, you done good! :w00t: That is one of the nicest examples I've seen, most of the cases tend to have mold/mildew on the upper off white satin part.

http://lh5.google.com/engelmoer/R_KZve1FPkI/AAAAAAAAAYw/CFCAvnPjaDc/01042008275.jpg?imgmax=800
A Fat Boy F4 (works ok, not super shiny, no more black in the numbers)
A Slim C4 (some pitting on the silo doors, have to polish...will be a shaver)
What looks to be an Knack (M1) , but unlike my other knack the handle is oval, head looks the same.
Schick thingie, ugly plastic handle.
Ever-Ready - bent in the savety bar, think i can fix that. (just noticed a pat. 1912 on the ever ready)
(got the last 3 in one deal for 5 euro incl. shipping, could not pass, although the pic was crappy)
sorry for the somewhat blurred pic, phonecam.

You know how something can grab your eye and bring you to a full stop. The first item froze me dead still when I saw it in a little shop today. My dad was a member of the greatest generation and the Tech Set made him come to mind. The war had been over for two years and the baby boom was just getting going. I can still remember playing solder in his old Army uniform. My folks were dating that year. The price tag on the bottom of the box says 98 cents.
The travel kit is stamped made in England as is the razor. The date code on the razor is R 1. Does anyone know what kind of razor it is, the knob to open the head is located at the top of the handle.

Broke down and hit up Crabtree & Evelyn (http://www.crabtree-evelyn.com/) after running by Denio's (http://www.denios.org/) with the fiancee. This time they actually had some Best Badger Brushes in stock (a whole bunch), but didn't have the Sienna soap w/dish that I wanted. I decided to skip the Sienna refill (I want the wood bowl), and grabbed a tube of Sienna. I love the scent. Tomorrow's shave should be good news (and I don't mean the disposable razor).

The photos don't do it justice - a mint heavy #58.
For $16....man, that is just CRIMINAL!!

Ya the girls there this time were smarter. They actually directed me to the "C&E Outlet", where they said I could pick up the Sienna Soap w/dish. I would probably just buy online, but I liked the effort. Last time I offered to come back and pick up a BBB if they ordered it for me, to which they informed me they could not order anything and all they had was all I could buy. Glad the current girls in their actually like to sell their products! They even agreed with me (purely for salesmanship I am sure) that the Sienna was the nicest scent they had for men's products. Though it was amusing trying to be sold on "facial products", like some kind of face cleaner. I just said no thanks, instead of telling them my shaving soap and badger brush was my "exfoliator"!

Ebay lot, 4/6/08, $23.45 including shipping. I own Techs, but not Slim Adjustables (I do have a Black Beauty and a Fatboy). Can't wait to get out the scrubbing bubbles, MAAS, boiling water, etc....

A few soaps and creams. VDH is my soap standby, never tried the glycerin before, found it at a new Walgreens. I finally managed to find some SAO merchandise at my C&E.

These were some very unexpected, but nice finds from trolling area drug stores. That new Walgreens was the first I've found that carried Bay Rum.
Not far from it I found a Rite Aid that not only had the old formula glass bottles of Old Spice, but some sort of vintage edition with the old style clipper ship as opposed to the yacht.

Van der Hagen's Glycerin is by far their best product. I love that stuff. Enjoy the shave!

Found a NIB Gold Tech. I'm not much of a collector, but I almost feel bad using the thing.
Edit: It will be on it's way to Ray in CT tomorrow in favor of a razor I won't feel guilty using.
...but. Still a good week:
2 QED B&B shave sticks (Love that stuff -- wanna stock up in case it ever goes south!)
1 QED Bathtub Gin shave stick
1 QED Casablanca shave stick
Merkur 39C - the Fabled Slant ...
MWF Soap in the ceramic dish
I ordered the 39C from Jim @ vintage blades. He threw in a nice sample: a styptic pencil.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jim. :tongue_sm
