Instead of turning the knob at the bottom, you instead just flipped a switch. I guess it was supopsed to make it easier.

The toggle was actually manufactured prior to the 195, Fatboy, & Slim models of the Gillette Adjustables. I believe they were testing out a new opening mechanism aside from the TTO which most likely got nixed due to complexity of production and they went back to the old style of TTO.

Well they are heavier, one of the heaviest Gillette's, and the Toggle lever gives some added length, leverage and weight. The doors snap open and closed with "Leica like precision", to borrow a phrase. They are interesting to shave with, but no better than a Fat Boy IMO.

I might add they are a very cool looking razor.
I have a mint/NOS one complete with case and unused Gillette blue blades, and for the life of me I can't bring myself to use it. Perhaps I'll find a "beater" one that isn't still all shiny and gold....and use THAT one.
I'd sell it, but then I'd just use the money to buy more straights or other old razors and stuff.

I would have to agree. I also think it was an attempt to be a little diffrent, inovative if you will.
That said, I am really digging the shave I have been getting with the 195 prototype.

Is the adjustment knob in the way like I've heard? It really looks great Ray!

I don't feel that it is. I rather like the way it rests in between my fingers. Sort of like a rest if you will.
Thank you, I am happy with the clean up to. The paint just flaked off and it shined up nice.

I got a toggle a while ago from a member here. It's in nice shape- but not nice enough that I feel guilty using it . It's my favorite adjustable- it's got nice heft to it, and set on 5 it gives me a nice shave with a personna red blade. The mechanism really makes changing blades a cinch, and imo is a big improvement over TTO. I imagine AaronX hit it right on the head - it had to be a lot more costly and complex to produce than a TTO.
