I’ve been DE shaving about 3 months now, and I just added a Schick Krona DE to my “stable” (Fat Boy, Slim, SS, Tech, Merkur HD, and a couple of Schick injectors E, and L) and had my first shave with it last night (Derby and pre de Provence soap). I was impressed! Nice balance, it’s lighter than a Gillette, and the shaving head is flatter. Achieved BBS (above the neck anyway) in 3 passes and a close, solid neck shave (I have one of those “jigsaw puzzle” necks where the beard grows in 10 different directions and in places almost horizontally), not bad for a first spin! I was actually able to get into those “tight corners” like under the nose better. The extra long handle gives you a bit more flexibility too. It reminded me of a sports car as compared to the bigger “luxury sedan” Gillettes. It is definitely going into my rotation.

For those of you who have a Schick DE, what do you think of them? When I first saw the plastic handle I was a bit put off (love those scored solid metal Gillette handles), but it handles really well, and I can’t argue with the shave I got with it!

I think the Krona is an underappreciated DE razor. I like the shave it gives. It may not have the "weight" of the all metal Gillettes but I have found it to be a good razor that gives a very good shave.

I find the Krona gives me a shave similar to that of a SS. I agree that the flatter head makes it easier to shave under your nose. While I prefer the "feel" of the SS in my hand, I think the Krona is a nice, mild shaver.

Too mild for me, but I like the way it looks. A good beginner razor, perhaps?

Certainly!

I too feel the Krona is underappreciated. There is a version with a metal TTO that gives a bit more heft in the hand.

Yep, that's the version I have with the metal TTO. It does have a nice balance and feel. Not too heavy, not too light. And it is comparable to my superspeed in agressiveness, which is about right for me.

I just got into wet shaving 3 months ago. Picked up a Schick Krona because it was affordable.

I prefer the heft of the Slim Adjustable, but I vastly prefer the longer handle of the Krona.

It's on the tame side, but certainly a perfectly acceptable razor.
(Tho' mine doesn't seem happy with Derby blades. Crystals & Gillette Swedes, fine. Have yet to try Feathers or Merkurs.)

I have been considering a Schick Krona for a while now. I've heard similar positive comments about them. I've also heard great reviews about Schick Injectors.

So far I've been able to keep the RAD limited to Gillette razors. I'm hesitant to introduce another brand to the mix. But I do feel my resistance slipping.

I agree about the Schick injectors, I really love mine. The only downside is there is not a big choice in injector blades (unlike the big choice with DE's) but they're not too hard to find at a reasonable price. Many people (including myself) like the German Schick blades.

I like my Krona, good mild shaver, the long handle is the real selling point to me.
I'm still trying to find a chart for deciphering the date code....anyone had luck with this?

Those codes may not be date codes, they might be codes for production line, version of razor etc. There are many minor variants on this razor, almost all having to do with markings. The markings are both on the head and on the bottom of the twist knob.

The Krona is a diamond in the rough...

or, an underappreciated razor...

or, a well polished turd.

Seriously though, the Krona is a very good razor which doesn't get the recognition it really deserves.
