View Full Version : I'm a coward :) Juma Razor - anyone had the courage to try one?

I bought a package of 100 Derby blades from (who else? ) Derby Exclusive on eBay. I was a little too fast on the trigger and didn't notice that the sort of high price was because he was including a razor. After the fact I figured what the heck, so I get a new razor!

Anyway, what arrived (besides the blades of course) was a Juma DE safety razor with missile silo doors. It seems light and flimsy, although everything seems to work OK. It even has plastic protection coverings on the shiny surfaces! After all, you don't want your $5 razor all mucked up, right?

I have a couple Merkurs - a Barberpole and a Classic, although I am considering giving the Classic away since the Barberpole has become my go to razor. Also a nifty NOS Gillette SS in the drawer, and a Gillette adjustable and Merkur Progress on the way.

Yeah, I'm a gadget freak.

All the same I am tempted to try it, but I am sort of attached to my blood supply. Anyone ever give one a shot?

What do you think blood transfusions are for? Go for it!

Seriously, it may not shave that well(or it may,) but I sincerely doubt you will hurt yourself as long as your being careful - although, I refuse to take any legal responsibility for the consequences.

I'm glad you are looking out for my well being!

Well, after I get through sorting out the soaps I'll start going through the razors I've accumulated. No doubt the Juma will get a shot at my face. Then the blades :)

Eh, I don't need all that blood anyway!

I have two DE razors. One hasn't even got a brand stamped on it. I'm fairly sure it's a Turkish Parker ripoff with the butterfly opening mechanism. I couldn't shave with it at all.

The other is a Yuma! I wonder if my Yuma is related to your Juma. It shaves fine and I've been using it for a couple of months now. I'm aching to get a Merkur though!

I don't know if Merkur is the best you can do in DE (at least in currently manufactured razors) but they certainly seem OK to me!

I'd offer you my Classic, but shipping to you would be ridiculously high.

I'm still new at DE shaving, which is probably very obvious! How much do you think shipping will be? Certainly a Merkur Classic is much better than my 'Yuma' which seems a completely unknown brand!

I'd be very interested in the Classic and will gladly reimburse your shipping fees (within reason of course!)

I guess the next thing to do is take this to PMs, but based on your stated country of residence and a very rough guess as to weight of razor and packaging, about $10US. PM me if you wish to proceed. The razor is free, and has a half dozen uses.
