Since I began wet shaving I have not been able to get that shave that I've always read about and what sets it apart from your average Mach3 and goo in a can. I never got the super smooth glide from the blade and I never got that BBS or even close to it for that matter. I started ordering some new soaps and a new cream. Nothing to expensive, just some almond, lime, and some bay rum Colonel Conk soap. Last night I shaved with the bay rum for the first time. It was amazing. I finally got a taste of what wet shaving is all about. Superior razor glide and an ultra close shave with not one speck of irritation. Before I've mostly been using Williams which obviously isn't the greatest soap but I thought it should of been serviceable for my needs. Anyways I didn't even have to work hard at it either. It practically lathered itself after I put some water on top of the puck and the lather never seemed to dry out like the Williams did. It even left my face feeling ultra smooth unlike the dry and tight feeling that Williams has always left after a shave. The ultimate test and what I dreaded most was the against the grain pass on my neck which always turns out to be a hack job with the Williams which generally leads to at least 4 if not more nicks or cuts. So I re-lathered my neck and slow and smoothly went against the grain on my neck. Not feeling any resistance but only the sweet sounds of my whiskers begging for mercy, it was as if my razor was on ice. I even made another pass against the grain and still got no irritation. My face has never looked so good after a shave. Generally its very red and irritated after using Williams. The final test was the Nivea after shave balm I use which always alerts me to any irritation I may have accumulated with a very painful burn for the first few moments.... it has menthol in it. Anyways there was not one trace of burn involved so I was very happy. Anyways long post and I just wanted to blab that I was finally able to experience what wet shaving is all about. Happy shaving to all and CHEERS!

Congratulations on your results.

It does show the difference between cheap(Williams) and serviceable vs. inexpensive and quality. Wait until you use the Col. Conk almond.

Congratulations, sounds like all the work (and a better soap!) has paid off for you! Colonel conk is good dependable soap, I always get great shaves with it too:biggrin:.

I just discovered to use the Williams as a pre-shave to soften the whiskers.
Worked like a charm.
Although I'm sure there's better ways, as I've read.. I just had it laying around
