I have a cheap straight that I am sure needs to be honed before shaving with and to be honest I am not even sure if it is worth honing or if it is just crap.
Does anyone know if there is a honemeister in Minnesota or Wisconsin or anywhere within driving distance? I would rather not ship it out just to find out that it is a piece of crap that isn't work the effort.

You can post a picture of it here and also if you tell us what kind it is we may be able to help you and save you some money on gas

I can't find my camera right now, but I know the blade is stainless and says "Simco" on it. It came free with a cheap strop I got on ebay before I really knew anything about wet shaving or razors.
Even if it is worthless, I would still like to find a local-ish honemeister if possible. I am not all together that handy and could see me wrecking several blades trying to learn to hone properly.
Also a guy I work with is looking for one too so he can get started with straight razor shaving

Randy Tuttle might be the man you're looking for. He lives in St. Paul, and I think I remember Joel recommending him as a honemeister in a post.
He is known on the member rolls as randydance062449. If you search the member list, you'll find his contact information. HTH!

If you have a Simco then I would not get my hopes up to high.
I believe they have been reviewed before and it was not favorable. But..maybe they have improved.
Contact me this week, I will be available in the afternoon and evening's. You have my phone number.
