I'd like to know the economics of DE shaving. How many shaves do you get on a DE blade?
If I'm that far off, how many do you get? Not talking BBS, just decent.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Jay

Many people don't get more than 3 shaves per blade. I can get 5 from Feathers but I don't push pass 3 with any other blade.

+1 -- I tend to swap after three, sometimes four shaves.

DE blade are so cheap in bulk that as soon as they think about getting dull I bin them. While with expensive cartridges I'd shave with them till they got uncomfortable.

Lets see here.....I too use the 4 shave and toss method. However, I always do 3 passes per shave, is that 12 shaves then throw away, or is it 4???? :sosp: :out: I must know before I can honestly put my answer in the poll. :001_smile
We have quite the quandary here now don't we!?!?

A new razor blade once a week
You left out the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The only correct answer that I can give is "one to many shaves from a blade, with the occasional blade not even making it through the first shave."

When I used to shave with Darbys and Merkurs I would stop after 3 shaves. I noticed the blades were getting a little rough by the third shave. Now I use only Feathers and stop after 3 shaves, though I don't really know how many shaves they have in them. I don't press my luck. Maybe I could try for more, but I've figured out that, for the price I paid for them, each shave with a Feather costs me 8 cents. Compared to the $2.50 I was paying each day to shave with the Mach 3, I'm continually amazed DE blades are such a good deal.

Not sure why, but the phrase "it costs the nation millions to keep Gandhi living in poverty" springs to mind

Depending on the blade, I usually get about 4 or 5 decent shaves.

I change mine once a week on Monday. I don't shave on Saturday and Sunday, but I get 5 good shaves from my Derby's.

I too, am a once a week man. I change out on Sundays, usually shaving every day. I could probably get a few more shaves, but this way I never have to figure it out by dragging a too-dull blade across my face.

Usually three shaves. I've tried more than three and can get an OK shave if I have to.

3 for me. I don't bother trying past that, they're cheap enough.

I don't have a stiff beard, but I found that store brand blade were good for 2 shaves generaly, three if I pushed them. Derby blades last me 5-6 shaves, sometimes 7, but not often.

I seem to get 3-4 shaves. I tried to get a merkur to last 5 and that was a painful mistake.

With a mild razor it seems to be harder to get close shaves after the 3rd.
An aggressive razor (Aristocrat) with the same blade is good for 2x the shaves (you must be careful and take it easier of course).
I used to do once a week. Now, I am using red IPs and at less than 10 cents each--I figure what the heck. If there is a blade in the HD in the morning, I shave with it and remove it when done and if there isn't one I put in a new one and leave it. So the answer for me is 2. Again at less than 5 cents a day, it's worth it to me to have a pretty fresh blade.

3 or 4. This morning I thought I had used the blade in my fatboy 2 times, turns out it was 5 times... I have a massive massive raw patch on the left side of my neck that bled for a good 10 mins. Ouch. Don't ever overuse a feather

That's exactly what I'm finding with my Merkurs and Derby's. The fourth one is a little rough, I've been stopping at 3, as the blades are so cheap.
Interesting that 3 good ones is about all I got with a Mach 3, at 10-15 times the price.
Best,
Jay
