Just a tip from something I've been trying lately:

I really enjoy both the lavender and peppermint liquid soaps by Dr. Bronner so I've simply started using both of them at the same time... just a little of each on the bath 'poof' (or whatever they are called) and you get the best of both worlds!

I also do this (i mixed the two in one bottle), but without a spoof. Works great.

Bronner's Almond and Lavender mix well together. I've also added a drop of the Peppermint to Proraso. It changed the lather a small bit, but doubled the "Proraso Chill!"

That peppermint certainly has a chill (some would probably classify as 'bite'!) to it. That was my motivation for mixing the products... I want variety but I love that cool feel of the peppermint soap.

I love Dr. Bronner's soap, in bar and in liquid form. I just threw in a teaspoon or so of the liquid soap with my laundry detergent in the wash - made everything smell pleasantly minty!

I also like reading the packaging in the shower: "ALL-ONE! ONE-ALL! DILUTE! DILUTE! DILUTE! OK!".

It's expensive as a laundry detergent, but if used full strength your clothes come out very clean and extremely soft.

would you say its better for your clothes than your typical laundry detergent...I have been debating buying some laundry soap from NB ever since reading how bad most can be on your clothes.

Yes, I feel there is a noticeable difference, plus it doesn't contain harsh chemicals like most laundry detergents that not only can do damage to clothes but can also be irritating to your skin.

I have been using a 2nd rinse cycle just for the fact that I want to make sure all of the soap residue is out of my clothes....im asumming there would not be a need for that any more.

Do you still need to use fabric softner?

If what they claim on the NB site is true (no reason to think it's not), then you won't need to use a fabric softner with high quality laundry soaps.

Fabric Softener isn't needed at all. In fact, the Dr. Bronner's makes the towels softer than any softener ever did.

OK....I just picked up the big bottle of the eucalyptus....how much would I use on a medium or large load?

TraderJoe

For the laundry, use 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup for one regular load; adjust as needed depending on hardness of water. Adding a dash of baking soda makes it even better, but try without it first.

If your water is hard you would add more right?.........

yes

edit: but, if you are using more than half cup its probably too much

I just added almost 1/3 for a medium sized load.....

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think it's economical to do all my laundry with Bronner's, but I bet the peppermint or lavender would be great for towels and sheets.

For liquid bath soaps I LOVE Paula's soaps!! It is www.paulassoap.com but seems to be off the net right now. She makes All Natural Real liquid soaps scented with essential oils and they are to die for!!! She also makes wonderful bath soaps..

For laundry soap, there is nothing else for me but The Good Home Company... I have been buying these for a few years, but can only get them at the West Point Market in Akron. (I stopped in Akron last week and stocked up!!! :tongue_sm ) http://www.goodhomeco.com/ Someday I pray that I can create a product of this quality myself... but I strongly doubt it. You can now buy her products online off her site... just using them makes me feel wonderful!! I also pour her linen spray in my bathtub sometimes...... :blushing:

I would love to try the Dr. Bronners tho, based on all of your recommendations and will probably give it a shot! I just have enough of The Good Home Company products to last me quite a while.

Sue, who is off to check out Dr. Bronners right now.... :001_smile :001_smile

Hey Sue, thanks for the info. They carry the Good Home Co. at Merz Apothecary downtown, I've seen it but never tried it.

The Bronner's is pretty good stuff, and quite versatile to boot. I even clean the bathrooms and kitchen with it. (After adding some vinegar, water, and lemon juice to it)

Oh! That is so Cool to know I can get them locally if I want to! Thank you Joe!! There were a bunch of new fragrances in when I stopped at Westpoint and I have no intention of telling you guys how much I spent... Is this what you call SCAD?? If so, I have it bad with those products...! I am a sucker for natural items.. they seem to work so much better and leave me with such a marvelous feeling when I use them..

But I am the queen of internet ordering.... :blushing: I love having the packages show up at my door! I am on a first name basis with all the local UPS drivers..... :001_rolle

I have to admit I also stocked up on the Westpoint Markets gormet coffee beans... God they smell sinful!

Sue, who is off to grind beans.....:tongue_sm

Well I tried washing a some towels and sheets in 1/3 cup of Bronner's Lavender last night.

While the laundry room smelled great, the overall results were disappointing. Neither the sheets, not the towels were noticeably soft and they did not retain any lavender scent...

My clothes do not retain the scent either but you might want to add a couple extra squirts to the load...thats what I do.

You have to remember that these items are all going into a WASHING machine!!

This is how I scent clothes... I bought a bunch of face cloths from Sam's Club... it was like 24 of them for $9.99. I keep a bottle of lavender essential oil (OK there are about 20 different bottles there nowadays, but I started out with lavender) on the shelf over the dryer with the wash cloths. When I throw the clothes in the dryer, I pour some of the fragrance or essential oil on a clean wash cloth and wait for it to soak in. Then I toss in the dryer and turn on. I do not use dryer sheets anymore, I use this instead.

Heat activates the scent in the dryer and when done, the clothing AND the house all smell great. The wash cloth goes in the next load of laundry and I start the cycle all over again with the next dryer load.

But what about 'fabric softening' and 'static cling'? Does it help with either one of those?

Nope! lol

I use fabric softner in the dryer and if I forget, I can always throw a bounce sheet in the dryer...

I don't have any problems with 'static cling' and have never really been sure what that is, but I am a jeans and tshirt kind of gal... I dry clean or handwash everything else.
