Hello all,
1) Why does Mantic suggest using a non-alcohol based aftershave in his videos?
2) Any tips for shaving the chin / jaw ridge area? I've read a bunch of the articles on this site, as well as viewed all the Mantic videos. I am getting a pretty close shave everywhere EXCEPT those two problem areas mentioned above. Anyone have any tricks they do? If not I guess I'll just have to wait until I'm experienced and comfortable enough for Blade-Buffing and J-Hooking.

I think the non-alcohol based AS is due to the fact that alcohol will dry out your skin

1) I don’t know
2) I think problems with chin and neck and jaw come from the skin in these areas being hard to keep taut. So I engage in a varied mix of stretching the skin with my free hand and putting my face into contortions and tilting my head to tighten the skin. Understand the way your whiskers grow so that you can make a good WTG and XTG pass and then another XTG or if you dare an ATG. Well lubed, lightly stretched and short light strokes being careful to watch for proper blade angle. That works for me.

I've sort of developed an 'orbital' stroke for a buffing motion --as though the razor follows an ellipse. Don't recall exactly how this came about, but I'm comfortable with it at this point and it works exceptionally well. :001_huh:
If you're a new or returning wet shaver, I'd recommend that you don't get fancy until you've developed and are comfortable with conventional techniques.

With the jawline I found if I keep my chin up high when doing that area while still being able to see the mirror and stretching the skin with my free hand it greatly improves the smoothness I can get in that area.

I find that opening my mouth wide helps; it allows you to shave your jawline as if it were on your cheek. Since I started doing this, my jawline has been much smoother.
