Hi
A friend just gave me a King S-3 Sharpening Stone (made in Japan). It is old but in good shape. I have just flattened it on 400 wet paper and it is very nice and smooth. It looks a bit soft.

Can you tell me, compared to a Norton 4000/8000 where it stands in the process of sharpening a razor or is it even adequate to sharpen razors.

Thanks

It's a #6000 grit stone. I've never used King's stones so I can't compare it to Norton though. If your friend didn't give you one, you might need to get a Nagura stone.

It's the smaller version of the 6,000 grit King S-1. It's a nice, basic, slow cutting stone. Probably better for knives than razors.
