Last shave was Sunday so today I took some time to do it good.

Nice cold shower with mint shampoo by Yves Rocher.

started out 2 passes with the grain using Executive Gillette with fresh feather.
Smeared some PRoraso Pre over the face to have a chill shave down.
switched to Fatboy for against the grain 1 pass, threw the ISraeli away afterwards then loaded a fresh Derby Extra into Fatboy setting 7 then against the grain touch up all over the face using PSO.

In between waiting I would smear the Arko cream all over the face
Is there a law against this kind of pampering ....

Yeah that was weird ! I was thinking is this stuff cooling me or not its so little but its there ..so I thought lets boost it up and use proraso pre on it to amplify the effect of the Arko. quite a pretty impressive cream. its is not luxurious Lather def. not. but it gives a close shave nonetheless. If im going on holiday id not take my luxurious creams with me.. imagine stuffing the 500ml Proraso tube in your toilet bag. it will be Arko toothpaste like handy or the Arko shave stick because thats a no brainer lathering wise..I cant stand the smell of the shave stick wish I could.... im trying to get intouch of the company that designs Arko I must talk to the engineers who make the scents or rather no scents!

It's funny, but I like the scents of the Arko soap and the cream very much. There are 2 Arko aftershaves which I don't care for, but the creams and soap for me anyway, smell great.

i just got my hair cut and so its pretty short......but actually, i just tried the Olive bar today for the first time on my hair. so far so good, but I do apply Brylcreem gel afterward so its hard to vouch for the olive just yet.

I don't make a practice of it, but when I tried Grandpa's Pine Tar soap (http://www.mothernature.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/87554), I did use it to wash my hair out of curiousity more than anything. You'll notice that it says it's a 'marvelous shampoo.'

I use real shampoo, but apparently some folks do use bar soap.

Do it all the time. I used to spend an absolute fortune on shampoos and conditioners to cure a flaky scalp. Now I use Pure Olive Oil soap....a Pashana Hair lotion as a conditioner....and use a brush once a day. No Problems whatso ever:001_smile

I did that a lot when I was in the Navy and had it cut very short -- it saved a step and worked just as well. My dad (Mr. Old School) always had my brother and I use a bar of soap as shampoo when we were on a road trip.

Now for my SOTDs so far. I'm using a new Gillette Adjustable DE all week, and I'm still trying to determine the right setting, alternating between 1 through 5. I've only used a Merkur HD before, so any tips would be appreciated!

Do it all the time. I used to spend an absolute fortune on shampoos and conditioners to cure a flaky scalp. Now I use Pure Olive Oil soap....a Pashana Hair lotion as a conditioner....and use a brush once a day. No Problems whatso ever:001_smile

I don't use the Oil versions. I use Original, EDC, Blue Orchid and Bay Rum Hair lotions. I believe that they can also be used as skin colognes. TGS stocks them in the UK.....QED in the US.... They have a specific product link....and there is loads of information. I really enjoy using them and find they are a very important part of my "grooming experience".

How did you find the Euro Gillette?

Hi Brian - I have used them before from John's sampler pack. My feeling on the blades is kind of shifty actually... I have tried Merkur, Derby, Israeli Personna, Feather, and Euro Gillettes. I did not got on well with the Feathers and Euros my first go arounds. The first shave was excellent, then nick nick nick for subsequent shaves. The Derbys are excellent (bought the 100 pack on Ebay in fact) but the Israelis are probably better. The 1940s Super Speed and an Israeli were just made for each other - I could shave with that setup for forever if I was forced to. I went back to the Feather after about 2 months and I got just fantastic shaves all week with it in a HD. I had to press my luck and try the Euro again which I put just a slightish notch below Feathers in sharpness. The shave today was not bad, not as good as the Feather, but not bad. The rest of this week will be the test. :smile:

Thanks! I see now from QED that its glycerin that pashana uses to impart the conditioning effect, and not oil. I may have to order some.

Sometimes after the aftershave I need a bit more moisture. That was the case today, so I figured a touch of skin food would do the trick, and the theme (citrus) matched my shave. It was just the ticket.

Joe, I think it is new. My wife bought it at Nordstroms not too long ago. It is a very nice citrus scent. Believe it or not I can smell grapefruit. On my person it last a good 8 hours. I like it very much.

At the risk of offending the purists, the Men U synthetic brush is surprisingly good. When I first got it, I hated it. I was far to heavy handed with it and the scrubbing effect was very abrasive and consequently, the brush was doomed to the back of my bathroom cupboard. I took it on holiday with me though, because I didn't want to risk losing any of my badger brushes and during that time I have developed a new found respect for this brush. It lathers as well as any brush I have used, and with the Nancy Boy cream it whipped up a veritable mountain of lather.

It started out to become a BBS 4 pass Ron system succeed till I forget to respect the FEATHER , suddenly after the first 2 passes I saw a tiny nick around the neck area I lathered up again..suddenly under my nose gushes of blood my heart skipped a beat I thought WHAT ! no way the Feather got into my nose ? suddenly out came a snotty blobby piece of blood from the nose making my lather on the upper lip all bloody appears I had a minor wound in my nose then I saw about tiny 5 spots of blood comming thru the lather I had lost all will to pull off a 4 pass so this would be my last pass I knew I didnt finish the shave but would beat any M3 shaver out there with just this 3 pass because a Feather just aint any ordinary blade. If the Feathers were my own design the name would become " Faceturbate "

I simply get better shaves by skipping a day or longer it is just so and I think most men agree somehow you get a better shave then doing it everyday I think why some men do get away with getting a similar shave each day is there beard grows twice as fast as ours that would hence make it as if you'd skip a day im pretty sure

Love the Arko stuff it rises in my book, scent is really light atleast not A$$ you can layer it on really thick its not a Meringue type of Lather but very close to Proraso concept atleast the proraso soap cream .

* My first shave with an old Gillette razor and I was pleasd with the results. The Derby blade seemed to suit this razor and I had a really comfortable shave, I hardly felt the Alum Block. It wasn't the closest shave I've ever had, my technique with this razor needs some work I think.

Nice razor.....I didn't know Shavemac produced DEs. They don't appear on the website. Was it a special?

wife's e-Shave Pure brush

The e-Shave brush is pretty nice for the deal I got. Denser than my Vulfix 403, but what isn't. It whipped up some very nice lather from the SCS soap in a jiffy. Tips are not the softest, but that's to be expected. This just confirms that I need a stiffer brush. So close to ordering a PJ2.
