I have been shaving with a straight razor for at least 4 months now. I bought a $15 George Wostenholm & Sons straight razor, but have recently decided I "needed" another razor so I could shave 3-4 times a week and still let them rest at least 2-3 days between shaves.

Soo, I went on ebay and bid on a few razors...and then a few more...and then a few more... I am dead meat when she finds out. :blush:


Anyhow... I have been making my own melt and pour shave soaps and would like some input from others who are doing the same as far as recipes.

As I recently suffered from a fit of straight razor AD, I found it very helpful to have an explanation as to the necessity of all the purchases. These are some of the ones I used:
1) The first was a pre-honed "starter" razor. Cheap way to get into str8s and the pre-honed bonus was necessary.
2) The cocobolo wood one completes the cocobolo DE brush and razor set you so lovingly gave me for Christmas. No set is truly complete without the str8.
3) The square point was such a great value I couldn't pass it up
4) The two ebay purchases were cheap razors that I intend on using to develop my honing skills. You wouldn't want me to have to practice on a more expensive razor and then have to replace it, would you?
5) I could tell the seller of this razor really needed to get rid of it. Probably some sort of financial bind and so I just helping him out.

The number of these excuses she actually believed -- 0. The humor she found in my trying to come up with exuses -- enough to get me off the hook.
