When I arrived home today, I was sad to see no bulky box on my front stoop. Maybe tomorrow I thought. But I was pleasantly surprised to hear the door bell a few minutes later. There it was. Georgetown Pottery return address, oh boy!! Took it up stairs and ripped it open. What a beauty. Forgive my amateur photos, but here are a few shots preserving the moment for posterity. Oh yeah and my wife said “Happy Valentines Day!”

Thanks guys.
It came out much better than I had expected. Just gorgeous. I am excited to try it out for my totally uninterrupted, unhurried Saturday morning shave. Also just received some Oak Moss Lavendula cream from Saint Sue and will probably give it a go as well. Fresh blade in the Fatboy... like a kid on Christmas night.
It is 3.25" deep with an opening of 4.75" in diameter at the top. So it looks like about an inch deeper and larger in diameter than Matt's. I requested the dark interior, raised swirled texture at the bottom which goes up the side about an inch. The different lip was their doing, I believe at the request of another client to more efficiently clear the brush of lather, but I like it.
I got it from Georgetown Pottery. See Mattmill’s post: http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32268

So this morning after breakfast I found a Flare Tip Rocket in decent shape for $8 at one antique shop, and a cased Fatboy, in near mint shape (the case is sort of beat up) for $25. Pretty good haul. Both looked ok, and I bought with hopes of a good clean up. The Fatboy is in perfect shape, I don't think it was used more than a few months. The Rocket is in nice shape, with some wear on the edges.

Great pics.
The persimmon, isn't it?
How do you like it?
The lip have any value?
Ridges work?
Oh boy... that's a really decent sized scuttle, innit? You don't perchance have the inner bowl dimensions handy, do you? Looks awesome!
I'll second that emotion. :001_smile I'm assuming you can lather in the scuttle no problem, yes??
...thinking about procuring one of these babies for myself. They sure look nice!
soulshine
02-11-2008, 07:29 AM
dimensions are:
overall height = 3-1/2"
overall diameter = 6"
opening diameter = 4-1/2"
inner bowl height = 3-1/4"
lather inside the bowl was just fine, no problems at all.
persimmon = correct
i tend to gently wipe the brush on the side of a bowl to get out some lather so the lip works well for me.
ridges seem to work fine, again zero issues making lather inside the scuttle!
i have only used this one time but it could be one of the best shave products i have purchased.

Oh and a note, the FTR was polished with some Brasso (didn't do much, need to find Maas...couldn't get it at Wal*Mart here, they don't carry it), but the Fatboy was just scrubbed with a toothbrush and dish soap. It looks better in person.
I've received a shaving cream and an after shave gel from a seller at ebay.uk, available in different scents, so I've choosen "Fahrenheit" (by Dior).
Now I must try it and see how the sc and the asg works for me.

Tabac Shaving Soap Refill
Tabac 10oz Aftershave
Tabac 3.4 oz EDC
Finally rounded off the Tabac AD
Nice scales, Jay (and nice work Jim).
I myself got several packages today. I got my sampler bag from Trumper's and a shoulderless 5/8 Erik Anton Berg.
I also got a TI razor, but was less than ecstatic about it since there was (minor) pitting on the toe of one side of the blade and a few more tiny pits on the spine. I don't mind imperfections like that on an old blade, but would rather not see them on a new blade, especially since this is a replacement razor for one I got with warped scales.
Anyway, to finish this on a positive note, here's the E.A. Berg.

Many moons ago - unless its changed quite a bit, its not worth the effort.
I took a French course there, all we did was go to classes, drink and smoke - the only upside was that you could get decent pain au chocolat and croissants (which isn't much of an upside when you think about it!).

Most guys take months or years to amass a collection like that. You did it in three weeks. Great job! Did you spend more time helping your Mom or shopping for razors? The two Superspeeds with W date codes are from 1951.

I got these at a local auction for $7.50 each this week. Hopefully that wasn't a rip-off. I'm kinda new to this whole buying razors thing. The superspeed is in the original case, and has a W-1 datecode (1951). The other is a mystery travel razor, made in Germany. If anyone can help with the ID, it would be greatly appreciated. They both cleaned up very nicely, and the travel shaves wonderfully. Haven't tried the Superspeed yet.
