This is a test to see how long I can edit my posts.
Is is post dependent (after a reply, you cannnot edit a previous post), or time dependent?

I can edit your posts anytime....what do you want me to do?

I would like my posts with blade reviews on the sampler pack in this topic (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=451497#post451497) combined into one post. So readers do not have to go trough all messages.... But it seems I cannot edit my own post indefinately. That is different at another forum I am active on..

If you could combine these posts for me, that would be great!

Many Thanks.

Check the thread now.....the posts I deleted can be restored by a mod if needed.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Indeed, only the posts with the reviews. In that way, all the blade reviews would be combined in the first post (6 so far, but quit a bit more to come), the comments that people and I give can be below.

The first post would be like this:

New to the art of DE shaving, after years of Sensor and later Sensor Excel shaving, I followed the first part of the advise found here and elsewhere: buy a merkur (although I bought the 23 not the 37). Now I am in the process of following the next part of the advice: try different razor blades, possibly from a sampler pack.

I ordered my sample pack from a shopin the UK and bought some additional blades at the same shop where I bought the Merkur Barbershop Classics (http://www.winkelplein.nl/barbershopsuply/default.asp?sid=o527nOgUjuMkgPuQiYbf1y7OFD1WcG) which happens to be only 10 miles from my home.

Now I work my way trough the assorted blades (complete list to follow), and aim to share my experiences with you. After the extended sampler pack has been sampled, I will also post my reviews in the appropriate section, but I do not want to post them there before I have tried them all (possibly twice to make sure my learning curve does not influence results too much).

First some details on the circumstances:
I shave (almost every day) in the morning after shower.
I use a Kent b4 brush and C&E Sandalwood Soap (as I did with my Sensor).
I give it 2 passes: down and horizontal following the jaw line.
(I tried to explain that in a better way, but this was the best I could come up with. Or does anyone a picture with shaving lines?)

For price reference: I used Sensor Excel. 10 cartridges/blade for 10 EUR.
Each cartridge lasted for 2 weeks. So 0,50 EUR per week is my price reference. Quality of shave has to be significantly better than the sensor, or price has to be significantly lower.
The prices mentioned in this topic are based on the price for the smallest amount. Bought in bulk, most of them are a lot cheaper. Bought on E-bay they can be had even cheaper.

Blade number 1: Gillette Bleue Extra (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19024)
After years of Gillette, I thought I try this one first. I was a bit disappointed. Was this the smooth shave I read so much about? The blade was kinda smooth, it was sharp(ish). Was I holding it right?
Second day was better, third day even better, fourth day it was obviously time to switch blades. Day 5,6,7 getting the hang of it. Not the blade I guess, but the DE shaving. Still it felt I was not getting the shave I felt was possible with DE.
Related to price: 3,26 EUR per 10. Cost per week: 0,65 EUR. That is 30% more than Excel... I need a different supplier or a different blade!
Conclusion: All in all, not unpleasant, but not the world of difference I was hoping for.

Blade number 2: Merkur Extra (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1825)
I was hoping for a deluxe treatment. Merkur Razor, Merkur blade: should be a match. No?
Well not for me. I felt like my hairs were being pulled out of my face. Not sharp at all. Was I holding the razor wrong? After 2 blades in 4 days.... time to change to he next brand.
Price: 4,95EUR per 10. Cost per week would be 1,75 EUR per week. That cannot be right..
Conclusion: Maybe later, but certainly not now.

Blade number 3: Sharp (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6997)
I like this one: Sharp is sharp. Clean shave, some nicks, but nothing serious. Or I am more agressive in my razor handling? Can't be that big a difference from yesterday? 2 blades in 7 days. And switching blades did not even seem needed. But to keep comparisons fair....
Price: 2,10 EUR per 10. Cost per week: 0,42 EUR. We are getting somewhere.
Conclusion: I like this one! Nice shave an good price.

Blade number 4: Lord (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4498)
I also like this one. Also sharp, but after 4 days, it was indeed time to change the blade.
It is sharp, but it also gives a smooth shave. It does not feel agressive.
Price: 0,43 per blade, cost per week: 0,84. For that money, I prefer the Sharp. But I think this is a somewhat expensive blade because of the import. In the review it is mentioned they can be bought 25USD for 200 blades. For that price, they come alongside the Sharps.

Blade number 5: Rotbart Extra dunn (German for Red Beard Extra Thin).
They are indeed very thin.
Well if first impressions count, this one is certainly not for me. I am not sure if the Germans like torturing themselves, but this one reminded me of the Merkur blade: my hairs were pulled out of my face. If you like that feeling (or are used to it?), the result is smooth.
I relathered to make sure it was not the lathering that made the difference. I changed blades halfway the shave, but I still don't like it.
So on longevety, I really could not comment.

There is an extra smooth Rotbart, but based on my experience with the extra thin, I will not be trying it.

Price: 0,40 EUR per blade (). Also a reason to let this one go for now.

Blade number 6: Schick.
First test results are good. I am quite happy to shave with this one.
It kind of feels like the Gillette Bleue Extra. Not super sharp, a bit forgiving (although I did get a small nick but that was when I was paying attention to something else).
It does feel that the angle to shave in is more important with this blade than it was with for example the Lord blade or Sharp blade.
Somehow the blade feels kind of thick. I have the feeling that it will stay as sharp as it is for a long time. I will not find that out in this test run, as I will replace the blade with a fresh one tomorrow, but the shave has not at all deteriorated in the 4 days it is in use. Maybe even improved (it that possible?).
Price, well, hold on to your seats: this in an expensive one: 0,53 per blade.
But, as said, this blade lasts for at least 4 days. Maybe at some point I will retest the ones I like for duration. So for now, I will not disqualify this one based on price.
