Not so much of an indulgence. More like starting the week out right. I get tons of compliments both good and bad. And yes even the Pat Boone one's!

BTW- Great looking latte. Add about a pound of sugar and yourself got a good looking cafe cubano.

No, its a custom built machine called a "STRONG" and it lives at my shop, it is a PID controlled machine w/ mini boilers for each group head, and the drinks looked better when they where freshly poured. ( they sat about ten min. before I snapped the pics.)
Cheers, DJ.

Well, it may be cheating to post the indulgence before it actually happens, but I'm excited nonetheless for tonight's dinner:

--> Broiled flank steak (been marinating in olive oil, soy sauce, and garlic all last night)
--> New potatoes with basil
--> Sauteed baby artichokes
--> Artisan bread from the market down the street

Let's see. Couldn't get a picture tonight. I rounded up the last of the fresh peas from my garden, cooked down some shallots in butter, added broth and the pureed peas. Cooked that out, strained it and added some cream for an awesome fresh pea soup. Sweet and creamy and totally unlike the usual pea soups made with the dried product. As an offset to the soup's sweetness, I crisped up some prosiutto di parma and crackled that over the top. To die for.

All right DJ - your coffee pics forced me to do this...

DJ was kind enough to let me sample his (EXCELLENT) espresso blend. So, tonight I had a pipe filled with "Frogmorton Across the Pond" and this:

Start of the shot with S1 set to 199 deg. F:

10 seconds in:

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3022

15 seconds in:

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3033

20 seconds:

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3034

26 seconds (end of pull):

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3025

End of shot (starting to settle):

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3031

Shot plus 20 seconds:

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3029

Drink UP!

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3032

For all of you who want some excellent coffee. Let me tell you... It doesn't get much better than this. A fresh-roasted (post roast blend) that is long on buttery balance with a fabulous (and long-winded) aftertaste. With a pipe... HEAVEN! :001_wub:

When Howard goes to a restaurant, he doesn't order coffee by the cup. Just an I.V. drip.

Guys,

That is fantastic rum. My landlord gave me a bottle of it this past winter as a "thank you" for helping remove the snow here (I live in an apt in a house). If you can get it, do so.

SWMBO doesn't cook all that often... but when she does... Oh my God! Just look at this.

Really though, how can you go wrong when you combine chicken breasts, bacon, onions, fresh garlic, fresh thyme, fresh parsley, fresh rosemary, roasted red peppers, crushed chilies, fresh ground pepper and white wine?

Oh yeah, and it was served over a very nice orange and bay leaf infused rice...

Stopped by the local Old Chicago for dinner tonight, and indulged in one of my favorite summer time brews. . .

Mad Hatter IPA from New Holland Brewing Company #2 in Holland, Michigan
Brewer: John Haggerty

Awards:
Gold Medal, 2005 Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer
Silver Medal, 2000 Great American Beer Festival
Silver Medal, 2001 Great American Beer Festival

Tasting notes:
Golden amber. Thick head. Nice spicy hop aroma. Medium body. INTENSE spicy resiny hoppiness. Bitter almost to the point of being sour.

Tonight (last night, too)

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=3040

Bell's Expedition Stout is a seasonal stout. Heavy and thick (not unlike good espresso). It's best served in a brandy snifter and SIPPED (11% abv) after a long day.

(wouldn't mind the PM on the rum, though. MITCH, help a brother out!!)

I'm a little surprised about the excitement over the Havana Club rum... I guess it just doesn't seem as special when I see it in the stores whenever I look for rum. Easy access to cuban cigars and rum is one of the perks of the Great White North I suppose... damn, now I want cuban cigars and rum...

Mitch,

SWMBO went above-and-beyond on that dish... it was fantastic*. However, being fair to myself I am a capable chef... and unlike SWMBO, I like to cook whereas she usually doesn't. Also, SWMBO is one of those people who cannot be made to do anything (I believe that you would call that independent and stubborn)... so she will only cook when she wants to.

*words simply cannot do it justice.

The beer was good... the cigar was better... now, that I've given up cigarettes I am going to have to make sure that cigars do not become a habitual thing (though, this is my second cigar in about a week!).

A few fingers of Elijah Craig bourbon over a big chunk of ice. Let melt for a few minutes to dilute and enjoyed while letting my French Green Clay/DaVinci water mask dry. A nice way to wind down the evening after the wife and baby fall asleep. Sorry, no pic :)

Haven't tried that yet - sounds great. I have a fantastic black bean and corn quesadilla that I have to lock in a safe with a Bengali tiger guarding it or the local fauna eat them before they hit the plate. I'll have to try it on the grill.
