So, i just opened an account and added a few photos. It was very quick and easy :w00t:
I set the account for friends only..... how does that work?
Can we form a B&B Photo group on Yahoo and have photo sharing and browsing through that?
That would be a great source of razor porn!
If you set the security for friends, only users you label as friends can see the photos, as opposed to "public."

I was kind of wondering the same thing, when I couldn't get my wife's pick to load to attach to the Personal best photo thread. I put it on Picasa, but I was wondering all the time whether we could allow a group of users to add/view pictures as well.
Does Flickr have that option? Is there a comparison of the photo management sites out there say Flickr vs picasa vs There was another one that one of the photography community sites was using but I can't remember what it was.

I was thinking if there was a Friends Circle sort of thing.... mine linked to yours etc. I have no idea how that would be done.
Anybody? Anybody? Beuhler? Beuhler?

I just created a private group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/badgerphotos/
There are admin settings, so i guess I'm the admin
Not sure how it works, exactly, but it's set to private and I believe you need to be invited. I assume you need to sign up with Flickr. I've uploaded onto my own page and can see the group from there.
I also think from there we've got a friends group to sort through, as well, so anybody invited from here can be invited to other pages.
There are options for pooled photos (they can be edited before getting put up) or straight to the group, member upload limits etc. I haven't done anything with those options....

OK, so it's a discussion group that links each member to each other. That's pretty much what i was hoping for; now I need people to invite :blushing:
You can then add from your collection to the group "pool" for everybody to view.

It looks like the best way to do the invite for the group is to invite Sabledog as a contact, then I can invite you to the group.

It's growing exponentially! Now we just need pics!

Judging by the way that you set everything up, it seems to me that you don't understand quite how the flickr thing works.
Flickr is based on the concept of streams. When you create your account, it has a stream. Everything that you upload goes into your stream.
On the other side of the screen, all I need to view your stream is an RSS reader. You send me a rss link to your stream, and any time you add something to your stream, it will come up in my RSS reader. The catch is that anything that you marked private WON'T come up in my RSS reader.
If you mark something private, then someone has to be 1. logged in to flickr 2. one of your friends in your contacts 3. viewing your stream from a web browser and not a RSS reader.
A pool is a 'stream' done by multiple people. So, if you have a Badger pool, you can have anyone automatically see what was added by the participating members just by having them add the RSS link to their RSS reader. If the pool is marked private, then there is no working RSS feed.
In my opinion, it would be better to do a public pool so that we can share the RSS feed link with everyone on the Badger and Blade boards regardless of whether or not they are a member of flickr.

Yes, i don't know how it works!
I think at this point i'd have to kill it and restart it. I like the idea, though, that people here may want a photo dumping ground without worrying about EVERYBODY viewing it, if they choose to, though, they can put it out to everybody.
I think of B&B as a relatively closed group and people post photos here they may not want everywhere else, so a private group allows for that.
At this point, add Sabledog as a contact and the slew of members there can decide to restart or keep it private......

... or you can have two pools!
I know that the strobist site maintains two pools. One is called Strobist, and it is the general open group. The other is called Strobist After Dark, and it contains all of the strobist main pool stuff, plus all the stuff that people don't want shown publicly.

BadgerPhoto and BestBadgerPhoto!
How does membership work on the semi-public group?
BadgerPhoto and BestBadgerPhoto!
How does membership work on the semi-public group?
It means that in order to join and add photos to the pool, they have to be invited.
On the current private group, does it still let you check the 'show group photo pool' to non members button? If so, then you check that button, leave the group private, and share can still share the rss feed with non members.
I'm no expert on flickr, but I do subscribe my RSS reader to several streams that my friends post.

I don't see that option.....
I added and tagged a few more photos and found myself setting them to public anyway, so I guess I'm starting to wonder, too!

I've become a relatively big Flickr user, my name is FootAJ if you don't mind adding me.
As for Public vs. Private...
I would make it public, for the main reason that it makes everything easier. Not everyone is going to see this thread, post their name, hope you see it, and then add them. Flickr allows you to build contacts, and right now, you can't even see the groups name or page! If it was public, B&B might even get some new members.
I understand some people may want to have their photos private, but Flickr allows your to share them, allows people from all walks of life to critique them, and can also draw in new members to B&B and members from B&B to Flickr :001_smile

Let's try this one as a public-invite group. I think Badger Photos will go away. The Private thing makes less sense despite the original intentions.
Add Sabledog to your contact list if you want an invite!
Spread the word if you want the group to grow!

I'm totally new to Flickr as well. I'm going to post everything as public for now. I hope to explore how much broader a context I can get from my photos if everything is available for comment. There's not much up so far. I'm beginning with my travel pictures starting with Bali, Indonesia.
A while ago I had all my camera gear stolen :frown: It's taken me a while to recover from that loss and right now I am just snapping pics with a point and shoot Olympus digi. I'll see where this takes me and maybe I'll invest in some new gear on some future day. Until then, enjoy the snaps.
Here's a link to the site (http://www.flickr.com/photos/19123959@N04/). Feel free to comment

YAY! A membership BOOM! :thumbup1:
I added rabelais99 as a contact, apparently I can only invite friends. The best way is to request to join the group. I got 2 emails for requests and that works a lot better than me adding you as a contact, you adding me as a contact, then me inviting you.....
I haven't done much of anything with the group in a while, hopefully I will add more soon!
