I wrote an email to Anne at Dovo/Merkur earlier today about the problems with the finish on their razors. I got a reply, she said they just recently changed their tooling and acknowledged that they wear out after a few years. She wants me to resubmit the photos I sent in to them last year with all the marks and defects on the razors, mostly the HDs and Classic models.

I would appreciate it if others would send in their photos of the various Merkur razors that have these same defects with regards to seam marks, plating issues, pits, burrs, pumps, marks in the molds, parts that weren't polished or buffed properly before plating. I told her others had problems with their razors too, she wants to fix these problems. Hey maybe I might get a free razor from them for helping out? But send in your photos or maybe we could start a small gallery here on the site where people can post photos and we could just send Anne a direct link so she can check them out herself. But Merkur should know that there are many razors with these defects from a wide variety of Merkur owners. Thanks.

I guess no takers for this thread? Has anybody sent in some pictures to Merkur yet or am I the sole complainer about the Merkur razors? Just wondering.

Guess I have been lucky but my Slant and my 38C are flawless. So was my Slant/38C kit.

I would love to help, but my Vision and 38C are immaculate.

Sorry, but I have had better luck also. My HD, 38 C, Slant, and Progress are all quite nice.

Where I seem to have problems is, you can see some crimping marks on the upper handle, 3 or so lines appearing under one of the guide rails that are not on the other one. The ends of the bottom razor head, (the one rivited to the handle) have seams marks, indentation marks. Some razors, one end is fine, the other didn't get buffed down properly. Basically the molds have wear marks, scratches or blemishes that get transfered to the parts during casting. I think the people who bought their Merkur razors several years ago are the ones who mostly have trouble free razors. But the ones purchased in the last year or so, some probably have some of the marks I'm talking about.

What's the contact info? I have a progress which has quite a few cosmetic flaws. The cap has a ragged edge on one side and the handle has numerous nicks and blemishes. I was going to send it to Mer for a knob install, but didn't like the blemishes so I didn't...didn't seem right to embellish something that had flaws. I would take some pictures and send them off if I knew how to reach Merkur.

Maybe they can make their blades more compatible with my face too.

My LH open comb and LH classic look immaculate, btw.
