Progress Question:

Morning Gents,

First of all I want to thank you Vets and frequent posters, your advice is awesome.

I have been wet shaving with a DE for three months now with a Merkur HD. I just ordered the Progress and I was wondering which setting would be comparable to the fixed blade on the HD? Also what is the benefit of the Mergress Mod? I know it looks 1000% better but will it affect the shave?

My only two razors I own are the HD and Mergress after experimenting with a ton of razors. The HD is my everyday shaver I would say that the Progress set to about 2.5-3(assuming it zero's out) would equal the HD.

To answer your question about the Mergress, it shaves the same as my Progress but I really like the looks and the extra heft. Also my Mergress always closes down to the 1 when replacing the blade my Progress would only close down to a 1.5, not that big of a deal. Another benefit of the Mergress for me is the painted numbers help me see the settings better without wearing my glasses.

After much trial and error I sold all of my razors including my Progress and settled on the Mergress and HD as they work best for me. The only other razor I may try is the 38C or 11C(HD open comb).

I agree that an HD is roughly a 3 on the Progress scale.

Many Progress razors are different, especially since you can't dial the razor down to zero. For mine, I would have to say between 2 and 3.
