This happends to me alot with the D.R Harris Almond cream. But since I got 2 very good shaves with it I know its my fault with adding too much water destroying the lather. watch your water vs cream density.

I've already taken up drinking, I like to drink what I make......but I've got my grandfathers old shotgun hanging on the wall above our fireplace, I keep telling my daughter that I'm keeping it for her future husband. She evidently doesn't know what that means.

I smell like Winston Churchill today. Actually better--since he's dead.

I shaved with Taylor of Old Bond St "Lavender" and a 1930's Featherjector, making three passes; one north to south and the other two across the grain (different directions). I sustained no cuts or irritation and I finished with a Rose hydrosol and witch hazel followed by Trumper's "Coral" Skin Food.

And, of course, Penhaligon's "Blenheim Bouquet" -- just like Winnie.

Have a great Fourth, even you Canooks, Brits and other brothers, where ever you may be.

Alex, I'll chime in with a little reply, since I have it also. It's an excellent, moisturizing shave soap with a good, although not explosive kind of lather like Proraso, Arko, Taylors or the like. I have the bay rum scented soap from Sensational Indulgences, and I find it has a delicious scent, and if you put just enough hot water on your brush, and swirl it around for 30 seconds, it'll give you plenty of nice, really fragrant lather for a real good 2 pass shave. Yes, definitely buy it, there are many, many scents to choose from, it's just a matter of finding one you like.

How do you like the Sensational Indulgences Soap? Is it good enough to warrant a purchase?

I think I would say yes to that question. I now have 3 tubs...the original one (Mayan Gold) smells wonderful. The soap is quite hard, and due to the small diameter of the pot....I had difficulty loading the brush. Since then I have transferred it into a larger container, and the improvement has been very significant. Great smell....close shave and no razor burn.
The last two pots I received have a slightly different formulation....ie shea butter is now included, and the soap is slightly softer. I still have to try these to see how they perform. The other 2 scents I have are Oakmoss and Vetiver.

Nice pic Tito. Have you ever used the Merkur blades rather than the Feathers? If you're getting irritation the Feathers might be the reason. Although I go against the grain on every stroke and do 3 to 4 passes, I don't seem to get any irritation using Feathers in my Merkur.

If it's time you're trying to save, try waking up 10 minutes early to enjoy your shave. That's what I do, it gives me more control and a closer, smoother shave when I don't have to worry about getting out the door to work.

Art,

Thanks! Yeah my 1st couple of attempts were with the Merkurs and I was getting nowhere fast. So I tried the Feathers and got the most elegant shave of my life. But I was scared as hell using the Feathers in the beginning and went real slow and gentle.

I'm still trying to put all the pieces together... the right angle??? the right pressure??? (I think that I'm getting a lesson in the less is more practice here) the right lather:water ratios???

Thanks,
Tito

The Bay Shave soap is quite nice. The smell of the lather isn't quite as strong as the scent that had permeated the packaging, but it is still very pleasant. The soap lathered very well, but unfortunately my technique was off because I couldn't get the lather to the right consistency; still with that in mind the soap allowed me to get a good 3 pass shave without any irritation going against the grain.

SR-208
C & E Sienna Shave Soap
C & E Sienna ASB
C & E Sandlewood EDT

Face seemed a little sore after the 2nd attempt of the Swede...so far the nod goes to the Derby for Closeness and Comfort. At this point I am not sure if I even want to try the Feathers...

Don't give up on the Euro Gillttes. They seem to get better with each use. For me, the fifth shave is better than the first.

Today went much better then yesterday. I was wondering if I was applying too much pressure so was conscious about it this morning. The other thing I think was the problem is that my SR-208 isn't holding as much water as normal. This morning I switched to my vulfix 2197 because it just wasn't right. I think yesterday the lather just wasn't right which caused the discomfort. I think I got some balm from my hands when cleaning the brush so it is causing the loss of water retention. I will put a post in the brush section on what to use to clean the brush.

I have a terrible sense of smell due to constant allergies and inflamed adnoids, so she's sort of the final say on scents... :)

What they say about old injectors is true. Some of them are great and some of them aren't worth a damn. This little one is a beauty, navy blue and gold, but it's a dog. If this were the first injector I tried, I would have long since given up on them. Thankfully, it wasn't.

Outstanding smell today, terrible shave. I've never had a bad Derby until now. This one just tore up my face the last few days. I figured it was just a fluke the first day, bad technique the second, but now I know it's just a bad blade. So what do I do? Finish the shave. I REALLY need to just change the blade if it's bad. I have no idea why I force it. This is razor burn from high school bad. Staying away from scented aftershaves right now until the new baby gets a little bigger. Grade: D

The Godrej lime shave cream is quite good--very fresh smelling, full of sweet lime aroma, made a nice smooth lather and produced a decent shave. Not as decadent a lather as the 3 Ts by any means, but very good none the less. And for 88 Indian rupees ($1.92USD) you can't beat it with a stick.

The Yardley Gold AS was also interesting--my first real strong alcohol-based AS, which was a bit of a shock to the system after a close shave.   The smell was very old school, barber shop-y, but nice. But again, at 235 Indian rupees ($5.11USD), its hard to go wrong!

The Palmolive "Refreshing Lemon" shave cream is an excellent product. It makes an extremely wet lather, very slick on the face, and produced an outstanding shave. My face was a little tender from overshaving on Friday, so I went lightly this AM, and still got a great result--thanks to the Palmolive! The scent is a bit faint for my taste, but the lemon is in there--just a tad light for me. But nice for summer!

If I don't shave I look just like Kyle's avatar. The public has mistaken me for a wild animal at times.

My first 2 days were bloodletting days. My trouble areas are just under the jawline and the bottom portion of my neck. Since then I'm starting to get the hang of it by taking my time and allowing more re-lathered passes. I'm going to add an Alum Block to my next order from ClassicShaving though.
