Good lord! You could get a couple of top of the line straights for that price!

A lady's Gillette from the 60s (blue with stars and described as "used but in good shape") just went for $22 - nearly three times what I paid for mine a month ago.

At least the one professorchaos mentions has some character to it. Maybe not $587 worth. But still is a handsome piece of history.

Note:
This set sold in 1910 only, and it was one of a kind. It was known as The Deluxe Combination set in 22 karat gold plate, hand engraved, and it was suited as a special presentation (awards, gifts, special prizes, trophies, etc).
The price then was $50, a mite hefty sum in those days!

Worth whatever it fetches. Beautiful set.

I have seen less go for more. I think there was a Toggle/Fat Boy pair that went for about $900.

I'd say. but that's gotta be the pimpingest (most pimpin'?) razor set i've ever seen. that thing's ridiculous. and it originally cost 50$ back when you could buy a car for $200.

Considering that a basic car is now ~$15,000, it would cost approx $3750 new in todays money, assuming equivalent inflation rates, price indexing, blah blah. so, looking at it that way, he's actually gt a screaming bargain there.

if this keeps up, and the popularity of double edge safety razors continues to increase, i see gillette manufacturing a new one,

personaly, i think theres some gillette employ or a storehouse manager for gillette somewhere sitting on a gold mine, waiting for the prices to peak,

As I said in the other thread about that auction, I'm not remotely surprised. It is really rare, and really spiffy.

That particular seller (safetiesfirst) is known for handling some very rare (and likewise very expensive) razors.

For that matter, the buyer (ras-oir) is a well-known collector. He knew what he was doing.

Looks like Goldfinger lost his razor. Neat but I like my $ more.
