I did mine on Oct 10 about 10:10 in the morning. So technically I was 10-10-10 10:10 10.10

Good deal. I'm liking it so far.

So you're 10922? 10-10-10 is better. That's 42 and everyone knows it's the answer!

I installed the new Ubuntu 10.10 on my "production" system, Monday morning. It is the best Linux installation and configuration experience I've ever had. No major problems, and I've managed to fix all the little glitches in short order.

A big Thumbs Up!

I've upgraded my netbook already, but am still not ready to install 10.10 on my main PC. This install of 10.04 is so modified I'm not sure I am going to bother either.

Linux mint is great, i used to have it on a laptop..im forever changing the OS on it though, installed ubuntu recently but i didn't like it... right now i have puppy linux installed. I despise windows but it is what i use on my desktop as there is not much choice when it comes to gaming, i very much doubt that will change in the future but if game developers started making linux compatible games the norm i would switch in a heartbeat.

Well I can now say 2 thumbs up  to Deja Dup which as some of you may know is a backup utility that comes on a few versions of Linux.

Yesterday am I thankfully did a backup first then set about reformatting my drive with the intent of encrypting the drive as it is a laptop and was not done when it was shipped with Fedora 13-64bit, after a long and grueling day I got the encryption working and finally got Nvidia drivers installed although not the newest version, reinstalled my programs then ran Deja Dup in about 15 minutes all my music (8gb) files for gnucash, (linux version of Quicken) e-mail in evolution and even Firefox favorites were all restored.

I never did get the newest Nvidia driver installed as to install it in terminal it requires xserv or novouea be stopped and when I stop xserv all I get is a blank screen, I tried many methods and either they didn't do anything to stop xserv or if they did stop it I got a total blank screen which makes install a little challenging

Hey guys!

I wanted to pop in, say hi, and share some more Android news.

I have a Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile's Galaxy S phone) and have been patiently waiting for the release of Android 2.2, aka, FroYo. Well...last night, my patience ran out and I did the unthinkable (given my track record) - I rooted my phone, backed up all apps and data, and re-flashed the firmware with a custom ROM based on Android 2.2!

Gentlemen, I feel like the shackles have been lifted off my phone! This thing flies now! Surprisingly, all of the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware managed to bog down my 1Ghz CPU powered phone, which resulted in extremely annoying lag, among other problems. Now, it's lean and mean, with a gorgeous interface that contains extremely useful functionality that I previously could only dream of.

I ended up going this route, using this tutorial and the Axura ROM. I'm still in shock that I had absolutely zero complications with this and, in fact, did not end up with a very expensive paper weight!

Now, it acts like it's trying to connect but won't. It doesn't even as for the password or anything. Any ideas?

I'm not really familiar with ubuntu (which I think you're running), but I suspect that the system was just asking permission to store the wep key/password on your computer so that you won't have to re-enter it every time you connect. Try a complete reboot and see what happens. Otherwise, you're gonna have to find the password manager or possibly the network manager for 'buntu (I don't know what the prog is called) and manually fire it up and edit out the network (and /or any storred password) and reconnect as tho for the first time.

How is T-Mobile's coverage and what's your monthly cost? Can you tether with it?

I haven't had any coverage issues with T-Mobile for the past 14 or so years. Yep. I remember the VoiceStream days. I can get a 3G signal from the Twin Cities that reaches as far as Hudson and beyond (heading east). At home, I'm on the Edge network, but it's still usable/tolerable. Usually, though, when at home I just jump on the Wifi. This has become increasingly more important ever since I discovered The Phillip DeFranco Show on YouTube and flogged T-Mo's network pretty good. You see, while they are unlimited, after 5GB in a given biling cycle, they will throttle your connection and send you a text message telling you to go easy on the data until your next billing cycle.

Can you tether it? Yes and no. Yes, if you root your phone and install a tethering app. Without root permissions, the tethering apps will not work. Please be advised that T-Mo frowns upon this. (see comments above )

Yes, as texting while driving is illegal for professional drivers.

What I really wanted to say in response to sharing 700 minutes was: Are you sure your wife is a woman?! But then I wasn't sure how Cory would take that, as my sense of humor sometimes gets misconfused. Besides, Mrs. Lynchmeister might really get torked if she read that over Cory's shoulder.

Here's my latest project:

Setting up a home network to include my desktop PC (uses a 47 inch LCD HD TV for a monitor), netbook (wireless), printer (wireless), and a 500GB external HD (wired to desktop). The goal is to be able to share files between the two PCs' hard drives as well as share the external hard drive and printer.

So far, I've got the PCs talking to the printer. Also worth mentioning is that while undertaking this project, I'm simultaneously browsing B&B and watching "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

Wish me luck!

By the way, it is something on Facebook I am trying to use.

Facebook is just a web app. Most likely it wants a plug in for the browser. What browser are you using? If you're not using it already, try it in Firefox. You may need to install Flash and Java as well.

What are the requirements for running this app? The author should be able to tell you.

If you told us what the app is, maybe someone could help more.

I'm having some problems running linux on my new iMac and any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

It's a sound issue. Sound will only come out the internal speakers, it seems oblivious to me plugging in a headphone jack. I've been looking around online for a while but not come up with much aside from one or two others with a similar issue. I've tried linux mint and ubuntu installs and both behave the same, playing around with alsa mixer isn't getting me anywhere fast.

Any ideas what to do or where to look?

Ubuntu and mint are recent issues and the mac is an Intel core i5

I had a similar issue on one of the earlier Asus eee Netbooks ... the solution is a bit murky right now, but IIRC, I had to manually switch (in software) which sound output I wanted to use. Not sure if it was a hardware or software issue, but either Linux wasn't recognizing -- or hardware wasn't reporting -- the switch that should occur when you plug in headphones.

Hope this helps.
