I learned Linux the hard way. While MUDding, I was talking to someone and they mentioned Linux, so I installed Redhat 5.0 trying to dual boot my Win 95 partition and somehow borked my boot partition. and luckily I made a install floppy. Took me a month to figure out
rpm -i --force what-ever-was-before-grub.rpm
By that time Windows was bye-bye.

Yeah Grub is da bomb. I had to use SILO (not LILO) for a while on an old sparc E250 until it finally died -- that was a freaking nightmare. Bleah!

Back in my day we didn't have any fancy "boot loaders" and relied upon complicated incantations and fire dances to load our linux!
You guys with your "master boot records" don't know how good you have it. Now eat your vegetables!

I also dealt with the dreaded Broadcom card for a LONG time before finally getting linux to work. I have the 4321 card (a/b/g/n + bluetooth), and tried many times before I got it working. There are two pieces of advice that I can lend....
First of all, you'll need a driver. I think you said that you have an HP laptop (as I do). Don't bother with the HP driver for the broadcom card. Download the broadcom driver from the DELL website. They look exactly the same when download them, but the Dell worked, and the HP didn't for me, using the exact same process.... Weird, I know....
Secondly, I was never able to compile or install ndiswrapper. Go ahead and yell at me... I just couldn't do it. Anyways, The only solace I found was in Mandriva linux. they have a very nice network manager setup that made all the difference for me. Once the install is complete, restart and point the network pop-up to your newly downloaded driver from dell (bcmwl5 in the driver folder) , and mine started right up.
After 9 months of trying, in an apartment that only has wifi, no hard line, I finally got it working. In the end, just keep trying and you'll get it. But for me personally, the one thing that did it for me was Mandriva's amazing wireless setup. I had a terrible time with other distributions for months, but I'd honestly say that setting up Mandriva was easier than windows, once I had the right driver.
Thanks.
When I ran Mandriva from the live CD it instantly recognized the hardware, but said I needed the firmware to run it.
So now I am thinking that I should try to hardwire my two laptops together via ethernet and set up a network so I can access the internet on the Linux machine. Hopefully this will make installing any firmware easier, rather than downloading, burning and loading into the other machine.
Now I know why Linux is so resistant to viruses. It can't get a virus if it can't connect.

If you have a second computer you can bring along for the ride you can be installing on one and reading documentation/pretending to work on the other. This is also where two monitors come in handy if you have a lot of stuff open all the time.
Someday... I'll have that second monitor... :001_wub:
This is what I am doing. I don't have to do much pretending though as I am not currently working.

Just in case anyone is actually following this and cares. I have nuked my HDD twice now and am considering doing so again. Is there an easier way to uninstall any of these distros? DBAN works, but it takes two and a half hours each time.
This is a nice thing about using a dedicated machine. Every time I get frustrated I can just nuke it and start over. However, at some point I have to settle down with one and make it work. :a53:

You don't have to do the ultra-secure erase with DBAN every time; you can format the disk using fdisk using the Ubuntu live CD/DVD and that's plenty.

I found the 4321 on the Dell website, but I have a 4318. Any thoughts?
Use that one. I believe that I had the driver for the 4311, but I have the 4321 chip. I believe that all of the 4300 series chips can use the same driver. If you still have a windows machine, download the file, extract it, and load it onto a USB thumb drive. Once you start up Mandriva, just point to network manager to the file named bcmwl5 (should be in the DRIVER folder once you unzip the package). Should work just fine.
One thing I found when searching for issues is that the chip doesn't care if it is a 4311, 4318, 4321, etc. I ended up figuring out to search for "43xx", and found much more information.
Hope it works!

I'm feeling left out of this thread recently, but don't take my silence as a white flag in the continuing Linux battle. My keyboard has yet to be fixed.
Last Thursday I decided to make the short journey to the after service center for my laptop. Let me tell you, finding addresses here in Korea is a nightmare. The streets do not have names, and the numbers on buildings are not organized in the Western style. That is, if you walk down a street and one building is number 50 that doesn't guarantee the next building is number 52. Ugh. So, I send 45 minutes walking the same street up and down, as there's no sign for the office I'm going to, and finally find a local real estate office and they help me out.
I get to the building and as I'm waiting for the elevator the security guard asks me where I'm going, which is normal, and I tell him the fourth floor. He says ok and upp I go. I arrive, feeling good that it's about to be fixed, and then turn the door knob. Locked. I am a little peeved as the hours are posted on the door and I'm there within those hours. So, I call the office and no answer. I wait....and wait....and wait. 30 minutes later i go back down and as I'm walking out the security guard sees me and I tell him there's no one there. He replies, "Yea....they're on vacation." WHAT??! I was so annoyed. He KNEW that's where I was going, but didn't even bother to tell me. I'm sorry....but what a *^$@. (That can be any four letter word you like.) I checked the site of the after service place and no mention of a vacation. I check the site of the home company. No mention of their vacation. All in all....a waste of a morning.

The Broadcom chipset is built-in, so that's why I want to stay with it. Ideally I will connect to the internet through the EVDO wireless internet card and then my Windoze based computers will be able to connect through the wireless Broadcom wifi, that's my goal.

I had the same issue when I first started... The box my laptop came in said that it was the 4321 chipset, and Linux also saw it as the 4321. For some reason my Vista partition sees the chip as being something different. Doesn't really matter since it work on both systems now, just kinda strange that Broadcom only seems to support windows, but can't even get it right in that case....

And 10,000 lines of code is a pretty cool achievement for a whole OS. A very simple, limited OS, but cool just the same.
As for NetBSD, it still runs on toasters and coffee makers, just not so many PCs anymore. I think among the BSDs (not counting Macs), NetBSD isn't that popular, even though its package management is really good.

Still with Xandros, altho with the "advanced" desktop. I was going to install Mandriva (only other eee distro where everything works), but could not b/c of not enough disk space (even w/ blank disk and no swap)... I got the 2g "surf" model. Xandros isn't too bad with the advanced desktop and for what I"m using it for (travel email), I'm happy enough, tho mandriva looks nicer, i think.

Double checked everything, left the battery (which I thought was full, and in fact was full) connected to the power for a few hours and ... still nothing.
So, off to the toll free tech support (12 mo warantee) and after finally getting to the right person (thankfully, tech support is still U.S.-based), the tech didn't know what the problem was, but immediately offered a RMA number and sent an email with return instructions and the assurance that their turn around time is 72 hours.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like. But, as I said, once I got to the right dept., they were helpful and quick with everything.
Keyboard.... yeah, small. You probably don't want to type your dissertation on it, especially if you have fat fingers. But, for quick notes, email, etc., I think it's fine most of the time. You do have to get used to an odd key placement or two... up-arrow is where (if you touch type) you'd expect right-shift to be, and right-shift is moved one key spot to the right of where you'd normally expect it. But, otherwise, nothing major aside from the small size of the key caps themselves. Oh, and also, as you might expect, no numeric pad and home/end/pg up/pg dn are accessed via fn key combos.
edit: and if ya did have to do your dissertation on it, you could hook up an external USB keyboard, but that sorta defeats the whole laptop portability thing.

Yeah? I'm a touch typist (with some imperfect but fast cheats), so the keyboard was a concern, but I have never seen an eeePC up close to type on it and try it out. I figure they'll start popping up in the wild soon here at the U. Anyway, I'm not in the immediate market for one, but since I can't afford a Macbook Air(!!) I thought a small-and-light laptop might be a nice portable solution for work on the plane and checking B&B and email in a hotel.
But knowing me, I'd put xubuntu on it, compile LaTeX, Perl, and the GIMP, and actually try to start typing my next article on it. Because, you know, I'm a nerd like that.

That's a noticeable downside to the 2g model that I bought (tho it doesn't really affect me)... Xandros does not come with the compiler chain installed & there's no room on the internal drive to add it, so if you want to add software, better pray that it comes in DEB format.

Get an old laptop, lose the case, and go from there. networking and jukebox duties don't require much grunt (unless you want to play video) and you could put the whole thing into a shadow box or something like that. You could even mount the screen on the front of the shadow box and have it be a bigger digital picture frame sort of thing.
Totally do-able. And if you have more time than money...not a bad way to cultivate your hobby.

Actually the move to Michigan isn't working out as well as we thought it might. We still own some commercial real estate that will be easier to manage locally and jobs are tough to find here, my business did not take off as well as expected, etc.

QGIS (http://www.qgis.org) is an open-source Geographic Information Systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_information_system) program, that doesn't have the depth or power of GRASS GIS (http://grass.osgeo.org), but it is easier to use for entry-level GIS work. I used GRASS and over 5000 lines of code to produce my dissertation data, but to show maps and make simple projects, GRASS requires a lot more startup effort than QGIS. Most painful lesson: My Powerbook G3 ("Pismo") stolen with four months of dissertation work on it that hadn't been backed up. Fortunately it was really early in my dissertation work, so it didn't have much bearing on my ultimate project, but it was shocking and painful at the time.
Now -- well, now, I'm paranoid about backup. It's quite something.

BTW, I noticed some good Cheddar Curtain shots on my trip from Petoskey to Green Bay yesterday. I'll try to get them next weekend and post them. These are Menominee river vicinity sightings. Maybe you could get some from the St. Croix?

Maybe you guys can help me with this one....
I made the mistake of trying to upgrade my kernel (apparently a pretty big mistake considering how much of Linux I know). I'm dual booting my laptop with Mandriva Spring 2008, and Vista. After the update, when grub loads I get the options of vista, Mandriva, Mandirva safe mode, and a string of numbers (which I believe is the kernel version number). If I try to boot any of the three linux options, it will work for 30 seconds, and then dump to a command line screen with a prompt of "local host login".... No command that I enter seems to do anything.
Any ideas? I could just wipe it and start over, but I'd like to try and fix it just for the practice...

it sounds like you're relatively fine, actually. linux just isn't loading a graphical login (gdm or kdm usually) and handling it from a text login instead. when you get that prompt, enter your username and enter. then your password and enter. then at prompt enter "startx" and you should be good to go.

Well, you were right and I was able to login, but turns out that I borked my xorg.conf file.
I forgot to mention that while I was updating the kernel I was also attempting to get some more functionality out of my mouse. (Logitech MX Revolution). I had added a few new lines to the xorg.conf file, and now it refuses to start.
After using the text login, I enter "startx", and it gives me a bunch of info, most important of which is that it doesn't recognize the "Mouse2" section that I had added, and therefor cannot start. Is there anyway to modify the xorg.conf file from this type of command line? I've tried a few things, but I can't even seem to be able to open it to modify the file...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah... well, maybe.
Log in as root (yes, you're allowed this time). then
run: xorg-config OR config-xorg or something like that. (diff distros name it differently). then startx and you should be up and running as root in a gui. So, log out and log in as a normal user.

Then ... there's the Debian way.
edit: If, by some chance, neither "reconfig" strategies work, you'll have to log in in text mode and manually edit xorg.conf with vi or your favorite text-based text editor....at least will have to delete the "mouse2" section you inserted. then save, log out, log in again and pray. Not as bad as it sounds, but it's a bit involved and can be a wee bit scary if you're not used to using vi or text mode. Let us know what happens.

Sounds like you used ext2 or ext3 as your filesystem (most likely the defaults) and now it wants you to do a fsck (file system check) on one or more disk partitions. Just follow the prompts and you should be good. If you ever reinstall, I would suggest using XFS as your filesystem as there are no mandatory checks enabled by default and the mount times for large partitions are super fast. I have 2 TB in my PC and the partitions always mount within a second or two.

As far as the mouse thing, google and the mandriva forums are probably your best bet. I broke my xorg hundreds of times trying to get all of the buttons working on my MX510, nothing worked and then magically when I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 it all fell into place, I still have no clue how.

About the above... just let the system boot and it should fsck automatically and need no interaction from you unless something weird pops up (which it shouldn't). Once the fsck is done (and presumably passes), the system will boot normally.

Oh, just remembered. Once it's done doing its thing, it ends in a terminal prompt.
I'm not sure what to tell you without seeing the screens... fsck is ordinarily configured to automatically fix any errors it encounters; maybe yours isn't set that way and is asking for an action. a "fail" can mean a lot of things... some of which aren't the least bit significant or worrisome (for ex... you'll get a fail if linux trys to configure DHCP when you have a ethernet card available but not connected to a router).
Ending in a terminal is probably due to the fail, but I can't say why or what to do without being there or having more info. Probably, whatever failed is significant (at least in Tux's mind) and you need to perform some manual action before fsck can succeed. But, that's just a guess at this point.
The terminal, as it now occurs to me, could also be the result of a GRUB failure on some level and you're being dropped into a GRUB terminal to fix the problem before boot can continue. This is more significant, but providing you don't have an actual disk failure, shouldn't be too hard to fix. (fingers crossed)
edit: a GRUB terminal is similar to a regular text/cli terminal but is more limited. The cli prompt changes t0 "GRUB> " to indicate this. Are you getting that type of prompt?

"This just in.... there is indeed a peasant revolt underway in the Czardom of Cheddar. Those lucky enough to have escaped have had to gnaw their way through the cheddar barrier which separates them from the outside world. Many of those who have escaped, have since complained to WHO officials of various digestive maladies which include lactose intolerance and severe constipation. There have also been reports of massive deportations underway of those labeled as "trouble makers." Those who have been unwilling or unable to escape have presented several demands to be met before peace can be restored. The rebel demands call for:
Free and unrestricted travel across the boarder
A fair daily working wage for the labor involved in constructing the Czar's new palace.
Greater access to materials needed to build the palace which, at last report, calls for 37 shaving stations (according to experts, this is cheddar dialect for "bathrooms"), electric fondue pots in every room, and 50 miles of hand-woven ethernet cable.
Finally, and perhaps most controversially, the peasants are demanding free access to Gouda, Mozzarella, American, and other cheeses.
If their demands are not met within 24 hours, the rebels promise the distruction of all chymosin in the Czardom. The Royals have been "unavailable" for interview. However, the Czarina has issued a brief statement through the Royal Press Office. The statement, in its entirety, reads: "Let them eat cheddar."
More details and special bulletins as this controversial and tense situation unfolds."

This in it's entirety is flippin' brilliant, but the red bolded text was the bullet to the heart.

Crisis in Wisconsin: Late Breaking News
Peace Restored to Tiny Czardom
Early this morning (local time), agreement was reached betwen rebel factions and Cory, Czar of the Cheddar Curtain. The Statement of Accord, summarized here, is the result of several late-night sessions that were clearly designed by the government to show the Czar's benevolence to his people. The Statement was released simultaneously via the Czar's Press Office and the government-controlled newspaper Curds and Whey.
In the Statement, Czar Cory I, indicated a new willingness to address any legitimate concern of any citizen providing such concern was made in a peaceful way through proper channels and provided that such concern did not impinge upon his authority as supreme ruler or upon the well-being of the Czardom. Further, he promised amnesty and immediate repatriation for all rebels who fled the Czardom during this recent crisis and has also promised government vouchers to all citizens for low-cost or free Lactaid (tm) upon proper registration of said citizens.
In addition, the Czar has stated that he will personally appoint a mixed committee to examine the issue of fair wages for those involved in the construction of his new palace. (There is yet speculation as to the possible compensation of workers who have already left the project.)
The Czar indicated that travel restrictions vis a vis boarder crossings could be eased once order has been restored to the country in full. The Czar envisions Swiss Cheese being installed at boarder crossing points to facilitate the process. However, government scientists are skeptical of the feasibility and time line of this proposal based on current technology and their own limited understanding of the Swiss Cheese manufacturing processes. Boarder crossing searches and seizures are expected to remain in effect, especially where rogue ethernet cables are concerned.
On the subject of greater access to non-Cheddar cheeses for the populace, Czar Cory was adamant in his refusal, indicating that such a concession would be unpatriotic and subversive. After heated debate, the rebels retracted their demands on this point.
The Accord was approved by 20% of the rebels (approx. 5 individuals in total; voter apathy being a consummate problem in the tiny Czardom) having voted "fo shizzle" (Cheddar dialect for "yes" or "approved.") There were two votes against (indicated by votes of, "jo-mamma") and the remainder were abstentions. One of the negative votes is said to have come from a young man named "Lynchar" who fell asleep during the debates. Some have speculated that he is, in fact, an unacknowledged scion of Cheddarion IV, the present-Czar's grand uncle who held power for a mere 21 days before dying of the effects of Mad Cow Disease in the early 1990s.
The UN General Assembly, in public conclave, has praised Czar Cory for his forward thinking and open mindedness to the Democratic Process. The Assembly further encouraged him to keep pace with, and to further enact, similar democratic measures in the future. The Czar, known for his staunch defense of Cheddar autonomy, responded in a separate statement issued in the Cheddar Language. Linguistic experts indicate that the Czar's response is best translated as, "Up Yours!"
In an additional and separate statement, also released today, the Czarina defended her earlier statement of, "Let them eat Cheddar." Referencing official government propaganda that the Czardom makes the best Cheddar in the world, she indicated that her statement was a wish that the rebels would have the best of everything. She further stated that she cannot be held responsible for any Leftist misinterpretation of her statement.

I've always stuck with ext2 (boot) and ext3 (everything else except swap), but I'll look into XFS.

My wife and I enjoyed our visit at Tom's camp. It was very nice and secluded. The whole time we were there the only traffic that we saw was one boat that passed by.
It was a pleasant place to be. The last week (of the 4 we were there) a group of Jet Skiers (BOO!!) kept zooming by. They were, as it turned out, all from a church camp up the river, the camp owned by a large IL church not far from my home. I chatted with some of the "boys"...men in their 40's-50's and suggested that a 70mph spin down the river, cavorting figure 8's and shouting and whooping wasn't consistent with the reason I own 2 1/2 miles of quiet river frontage. And I suggested that their behavior was more like 16 year old behavior rather than 40-50's behavior. I was met with rude responses, and I even trotted out the old "Christian Guilt" card...reminding them that the represented the church in the area, etc. (This worked a bit, but still the noise.)
Then, it was as if God, Himself delivered Jonah into my hands. We had broken down our camp, and were staying at one of our cabins, the furthest downstream. The boys were on the jet skis, my uncle and some friends were there, and suddenly one of the awful machines stopped running. They approached our dock, and contritely and nicely explained to me that the machine would only travel in reverse now...that it was broken and that they needed my help.
Filled with compassion, I suggested, very nicely, that traveling in reverse would be about the same speed as my 14 ft aluminum boat with the 8 horse Mercury. That I knew their camp was about 6 miles distant, but that this wasn't an impossible thing. Then I nicely said..."So just put your ass on that machine and ride it in reverse back to where you came from...can't take it out here." And I reminded them that the next 2 1/2 miles of river frontage that abutted a road was mine, and that they were not welcome to pull out anywhere along the way.
"God Bless You!" I called after them. It was a great moment.
The fish were caught on a 10 lb test Linux, by the way.
The picture Dennis posted was of one of my chickens. These turned out to be the worst...ABSOLUTELY worst...food SWMBO or I have eaten...it was like chewing chicken flavored innertubes and the insides of golf balls would have come off the bone better. We gave up on it, and ate hotdogs that night, instead, after carefully grilling the chickens. We turned the other chicken loose and then SWMBO shot it...one humane shot, where I suppose it became Coyote Food.
:lol::lol::lol:
(I have nothing against Jet Skis, or some of the people who ride them...but I do have something against noisy yahoos...)

XFS has issues with data loss in the event of power outtages etc. Unless it's properly shutdown your XFS system can suffer (not a huge issue if you have a laptop, but if you have a crash and need to do a hard reset it may lead to a new install).
Oh and I'm back from Brazil hi to all.

XFS is a journaling file system just like ext3 or reiserfs, so the data loss reference is not accurate. You have the same amount of risk of losing data for a power outage with XFS compared to ext3 or reiserfs. (I work for a linux distributor and have first hand knowledge BTW)

Yes, but like all journaled filesystems it can suffer from corruption which may or may not be recoverable from the journal.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-2189-postdays-0-postorder-asc-start-700.html
I am no linux guru, but I have read in various forums (especially Gentoo forum) that XFS can and DOES have issues with data loss in the event of power outages. I would be interested to know if I am wrong, how I am wrong. That is to say, please explain how I may be misinterpreting/mischaracterizing what others have posted about XFS's supposed problems with data loss during power outages.

There is always the possibility of having bugs in file system code. I have a feeling that either the distribution is distributing older code or users are running older versions... check the March 2007 entry at http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/ .
My company provides a community version as well as an enterprise version (i.e. supported) of Linux. If XFS had major problems like this, it would not have been included. If enough people actually have problems and complete bug reports (especially when it is data corruption), these issues get resolved quickly.

Granted most of the posts concerning XFS vulnerability to data corruption on the Gentoo thread is old (cir. 2003 YIKES!), there remains a strong hesitancy on the part of many posters to recommend it. Gentoo is a source-based distro which has generally the most up to date packages as well as running the latest kernels (it is after all a "roll your own" distro) so any XFS old bugs would be squashed by now. That being said, many Gentooers continue to be reluctant to use XFS due to its apparent vulnerability to power outages in comparison to ext3 or reiser4. XFS is almost certainly a better choice right now than etx4, but probably not as bugless as reiser4 (although if you want a good flamewar just start throwing XFS or resier4 insults around on the Gentoo forums )
Just "cause we offer it" doesn't really do it for me, or "cause no one complains" doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. If you told me for example that these data corruptions were due to earlier issues with how journals were written/structured, then I would bow to your eminently reasonable answer.
As I understand it, the issue is the way XFS treats metadata in the journal, especially directory tree information. Any corrupt or missing info in a node is released back to the disk spool for use. So an entire directory can be lost if the node becomes corrupt and no amount of fscking will bring it back. Again, I know very little about filesystems. (it probably shows in that description above), but I have researched this issue for quite some time (I REALLY wanted to use XFS on my laptop) but I felt after reading MANY posts about XFS weaknesses that it was just not something that I wanted to fsck with ().
biomesh

Without knowing more about the previous issues, I cannot provide you an answer. I have seen this type of corruption happen on every single type of filesystem in some extent for a power outage situation (this is over a period of 10+ years and has not happened very often). The best solution is to make sure you have a UPS or that your laptop battery doesn't run out

Undoubtedly. Only, as I understand it, XFS is prone to "worser" trouble. Again, maybe I'm just a chickenlittle here, I don't know enough about filesystem construction to be able to really explain the issue in detail. :blushing:

I know we are getting close to 3000 posts. I really expected it while I was goofing off on my mini sabbatical. I am feeling rather overwhelmed right now and it is only day three of my return to school. If you don't see me around much that is why.
So, will someone else please take post number 3000 and flair the living dog snot out of it? Who ever is going to do it should call it early and make it something to remember.
Cory, you started this behemoth, are you up to the challenge? What about Mr. G? I think it would be worthy of one of his stories. Maybe with a few pictures.

I gave up on Linux years ago in favor of FreeBSD. One of the largest problems with Linux is that the whole 'world' is comprised of too many people with too many different ideals on how things should be done. FreeBSD's 'world' is more tightly controlled, and the ports tree is just phenominal.
That being said I use a Mac now, which runs OS X.. a derivative of FreeBSD labeled Darwin.
YUMYUM.

um, I'd propose a different kind of flair if we're going to (verb) the living dog snot out of anything.

My vote is for no dog snot (or drool) period. Living or deceased.

:ouch1:
This memo issued largely because 1) Czar's Dog does not need another excuse to slobber the place up and 2) Czar's Cat and other related subjects are easily confused by the color similarity between Linux Mint, Dog Snot, and bad cheddar.

I am about to do a major.......... well................ something to my laptop. After using FF for a few days, I like it!! Now, I have been told to free up some room, and make this PC faster and stuff, I should uninstall IE, and most other factory installed programs that I will never use (which is many of them!!). Help me out guys. Is this sound advice? I will express my appreciation in advance for any help you fine folks can lend and old man.....

First off
JKDfrag. An awesome windows defrag utility (that is lightyears better than the windows one). This should help out free up some space.
Try also the windows decrapifyer (real name). It gets rid of all the crapware that comes standard on windows OEM installs.
Second, I have always heard that uninstalling IE in windows did evil things to the OS. It is much better to just install FF as your default browser and leave IE to rot on your harddrive.

Chickpea,
I will do a seach on the above mentioned defrag and....... ahem........ de-CRAP-ifyer. OF course I am doing all of this in between rounds of Wii boxing, which I am kicking ass on!!
You seem to really know your stuff in regards to computers, so I will gladly take the advice to not uninstall IE. Thank you for the help...

I might be a bit late to the party but I can wholeheartedly second this advice. IE is a core part of the operating system and Windows relies on some of its files. You definitely lose some functionality when uninstalling IE. Like the legume said, it's best to just leave it alone.

Don't get so far ahead of yourself. Agreed on the cheeses/color/dog snot, but if you've ever been over near LaCrosse, WI on a nippy autumn Friday night with the Walleye being delicately pan fried, the potato pancakes crisping around the edges and the coleslaw piquant with vinegar, caraway and pimentos, with just a hint of the sweetness of real Hellman's...with a slice of hearty rye bread...wellsir, NOTHING could wash all this down better than a cold bottle of Dog Snot Lager! It truly DOES make your nose as wet as a setters!:tongue_sm
OHMIGOD!!!! I was the lucky one with 3000? And to think...I'm the guy who took my Walmart computer over to a young friend, went to Best Buy to put some new memory in it, and proudly proclaim that I don't even know how to pronounce LINUX...I think it's "LINE-UX" But it could be lynn-ux.....what is it?
