I noticed tonight that on my tech the lacquer is coming to flake off, especially where the handle tightens onto the head. I imagine that the gold is going to start coming off eventually. I guess should I be worried? Should I go on eBay and snag a chrome one instead? What is under that gold anyway besides the brass that the razor is made out of?

If you allow it to continue, I believe that you will end up with a copper and brass razor. A few of us here on the forum have "copper" Techs and NEWs. I think the "copper" razors look great.
I personally don't know how to stop the loss of the plating other than to discontinue use of the razor.

I like chrome razors better than gold. They are tough...scrubbing bubbles, boiling, ammonia, vinegar all safe with them...and a ilttle MAAS and they look like new

I have a Gold Tech that I use very seldom. I keep it more for looks than anything else. The gold is just starting to bubble a little on the cap.

Oh.
I see; you were referring to gold-plating on a Tech, not your teeth.
Nevermind.
FWIW, though, I don't think I'd get your teeth plated gold.
