Man that AOS soap is slick. A big thanks to Frances my sister in law who gave it to me for Christmas. Very smooth shave and it's only the first time out with it. Headed off to a favorite restaurant for some breakfast and lots of coffee and then on to the book store to use up a gift card. This evening it's some great Italian food and Bellini's. Can't wait to shave with that stuff again tomorrow. Then time to diet again. Ugh, pant getting tight. :blushing:

This was my best DE ever. I think lathering on the face helped. Also using the least blade angle that cut determined from the cap and lowering down for the first two passes and letting it be a bit more aggressive where needed.

Barc Bump Down doesn't have a scent and it's primarily for reducing irritation. Nonetheless, it's pretty moisturizing on my skin. I still use a dedicated moisturizer but the Barc is a good primer. I've found it also works well as a gauge of how aggressive my shave was, in reference to my irritation. The stronger the burn, the more aggressive the shave. Fortunately, I'm getting less and less burn without sacrificing smoothness.

This was my first time using this brush. Holy crow does this thing ever soak up the lather!!! I used more than double my normal amoundt of cream, and to be honest, it was still a bit lacking. It did feel very nice on my face though, that soft yet full feeling is really hard to describe.

I can't wait to try this thing on a soap, so tomorrow morning, maybe Col Conk's Almond!!:w00t:

This shave had it's good points and it's bad points. The lather was so great I had to try a third pass. I must have been out of my mind. I decided to try an EW pass to see what it would do. it definitely has possibilities, but it also did a number on my face. I'm not sure how much of this was due to technique and how much was do to "TTCTB Syndrome". I try to insist on a week's worth of shaves out of any blade. Maybe that's to ambitious for these red IPs. Anyway, tomorrow's blade changing day.

Ah...today's shave. It was interesting, to say the least. Oh yeah, painful too.

I'm sure it was a combination of several factors, so I'm not sure exactly where I went wrong. I received my GFT Sandalwood Soap yesterday, so of course I had to try it for the first time...at the tail end of the week...at 4am. The lather was good, but definitely room for improvement. The scent was a lot more powder and floral and a lot less sandalwood than I had expected, but I kept an open mind and it started to grow on me. The strange burning sensation after the first pass not so much. Oh, how I hope I'm not allergic to it and I suspect that my technique was suffering so early on in the day.

The NOS Aqua Velva (seller indicated 80's vintage) was a recent Ebay transaction. The ingredient list is similar but a little bit different from the current drugstore offering. Upon first use I couldn't tell a difference - but the bottle is way, way cool.

To Saturday's line up add a styptic pencil. The razor slipped slightly from my hand as I was on pass #3, ATG, on my upper lip area. As I re-gripped it the blade slid left leaving about a shallow 1 inch cut. Man, did it bleed. I haven't done anything like that in several decades. Twenty four hours later it has healed considerably. Even the soreness in mostly gone. :blushing:

I guess that is one good thing about making a mistake in shaving; it will heal.

Friday was a bit rough, but an ok shave. Saturday saw some improvement in the lather and overall comfort department and today was just a downright great shave. I noticed that the base of my brush had a lot of built up residue, so went out and bought some borax and cleaned my brush. In addition, I counted out a full minute while loading my brush, which quickly led me to realize that while I thought I had been doing a sufficient job of loading my brush previously based on appearance, clearly I was not.

I see a migration over to soaps as my primary lather option in the future.
