I have a Progress razor I use for days when I'm in a hurry and when I clamp it down the adjuster ends at "2". The razor is aligned correctly, that I can see. Now since I shave with a straight I am inclined to move it all the way around past 3-4-5+ and set it at the next iteration of numbers, but then it seems a little too open.

I can shave with it at the "2" or "3" setting, which is all the way closed but I have to angle the razor just like an HD. I noted in Mantic's video that he said you don't need to angle it like a regular HD (which was one of the reason I bought it). Or so I thought he said, I could be wrong.

I get a great shave from it and I think its the perfect razor, love it, but I'd like to hear your thoughts/comments.

Can I assume that you all are setting it on the very first set of numbers once closed and not running it around to the second iteration?

Again, fully closed, it lands on "2".

These razors just seem to index wherever they please (although it is consistent). I say the number doesn't matter. Always clamp it down to the stops, then open the adjuster a few numbers to WHERE IT WORKS FOR YOU...

I dont know how Merkur's quality control can let this get through, but it is fairly common. I think the ring that the numbers are printed on need to be indexed with the 1 to the dot when it is tightened to the stops. I have heard of it shifting. Mer has talked about being able to fix it. I have seen others describe wrapping the number ring with masking tape and using pliars to rotate it into the correct spot. I am lucky that mine lines up at the 1.

All that being said, Ken is right. Unless it really bothers you (It would probably bother me till I had to try to fix it) it will work just fine. what ever number works for you, it will be the same each time.

Mike

Off late i have stopped adjusting my adjustables for each and every pass. For example i used to use a high setting for the first pass and dial it down for every pass i do. Now since my technique has improved and i know what works in each of my adjustables like 4 on a Fatboy, 3 on my Mergress etc. I leave the setting at these numbers and get great results. So just try shaving with a few settings and find your "sweet spot".

I just set the + sign under the dot when I insert a new blade and just tighten and its fully closed and aligned to 1.
