Hello,

I've googled and searched the forums to figure out if any resellers in the US sell Kent brushes. I figured the shipping would be cheaper than buying it from a British source, but those are the only sources I'm finding. Any suggestions for the best place to purchase? None of the usual sources seem to carry them. Thanks.

I did a search on ebay and the only one I found was a seller in the UK. I bought a BK4 from him. I don't know if there are any USA sources . You could try posting on the BST forum . Perhaps a forum member has one too many ....... if that is possible

I think there's only one US distributor, in Florida, and the prices are horrible.

There are two in the US that I know of, both of which cost over 2X what it would cost to order from England, including shipping!

I have ordered from Kent via the web a couple times (most recently a couple days ago). Shipping was about $12 plus for the $20 of stuff I bought (with the sucky US exchange rate pricing). Had to be down - I love their combs. :001_wub:

Thanks for the feedback, looks as if I would be best suited by ordering directly from them or another UK-based retailer. There may be a BK 4 in my future...

There's probably a 20% coupon somewhere. Try GBK1777.

Great info, John, thanks.

For what it's worth, I have come to the conclusion that it's hard to figure out what the "best" brush for me would be just by reading the comments of others (although the threads and reviews are very helpful in getting a general sense of how they differ). So, I think I will just slowly acquire a few brushes and sell them if I don't like them.

On my list is a Kent such as the BK 4, a mid-sized Savile Row such as a 3824 (already tried a 3318 and it's too small for me), maybe a Shavemac, and quite possibly a Rooney of some sort. Simpsons seem to be the most hotly contested but one of these days I'll probably try one too.

I know based on the reviews that some of the brushes listed above may feel or perform very differently, but I figure the only way to know what I like is to try them. Charles of QED reminded me of this as we were having a discussion not long ago about soaps and creams.

Wetshaving is such a personal, YMMV thing that I think one needs to just sit back and enjoy the process of finding the things that work best for them. Trying to find "the best" immediately and stressing about these decisions is a recipe for disappointment... I recommend that all relatively new wetshavers like me enjoy the ride and not worry about finding your perfect products right away. The BST forum makes it much easier to do this.

Anyway, thanks again B&B folks!

I just ordered a BK4 from the Kent Website (http://www.kentbrushes.com/)and used a 20% discount code from the Shave Den forum (http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3487), which is good till 31 Dec.

Cost for a BK4 comes to $65 + $11 for shipping...add a cake or 2 of MWF soap and Santa can visit twice in a year!

I have the SR3318. Yes, it is small, but performs very well. I'm not a big guy, so no qualms.

Yesterday, I received my Kent BLK4. It is quite a beauty, and has a unique feel. I LOVE it. You can just feel the quality as you hold it. And, the price is fair.

Thanks for the heads-up on the discount code; I just ordered a BLK4 (black handle) and a few soaps for my collection. I already have the BK4, and it's a favorite. The obsession continues...

Anyone know the approximate knot size of the BK/BLK 4 ?
Somewhere in the 21-23mm range?

I purchased both a BK4 and a BK8 from auravita.com. Price with shipping was way better than the US based resellers I was able to find.

The same is true for DR Harris soaps and creams. It's cheaper to get them from www.theenglishshavingcompany.com than from any online retailer in the USA.
