Sometime after the holiday's and when I have a few spare bucks, I am going get another Superior brush with a black handle and name it Blacktooth. This will makes sense if you grew up in Detroit and remember Soupy Sales.

American Crew Shave Lotion

Best shave in weeks. If you bought some of this Trader Joe stuff and haven't used it much, try applying a very generous amount to your face using your brush. I didn't worry about "lather," I just put a good layer on my face. Shave was very close and comfortable. I think trying to lather it too much actually cuts down on the viscocity. You have to use quite a bit (I squeezed a silver-dollar sized amount into the bowl, and my brush really soaked it up), but at the price, who cares. I had enough for two full passes plus touch-ups. Sometimes using a product as described in the directions actually works..

the slant kicked butt! smooth, easy shave; no nicks, cuts, or weepers; i'm impressed. i could barely feel it cutting, no razor burn, wow. lathering is progressing after yesterday's breakthrough as well, no more problems with dry lather face. still can't quite get the lower part of my neck under my jaw as smooth as i want, butthe rest of my face is bbs.

* super secret moisturizer is glycerin, propolyne glycol, aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, and water. ratio is 1/1/1/1/4 or so. a little goes a long way, i really like it. and i can add whatever eo i want to flavor it!

If you don't know, it's called The Trophy because the original owner in the '50's was a big game hunter and had a lot of his trophy mounts in the barbershop. I stopped counting at 100. There is everything from a pygmy antelope to a 12' full body Polar Bear. Originally it had Elephant foot ashtrays.

i learned something from the slant yesterday - holding my razor at a slight horizontal angle makes a huge difference in my shave. not quite as close as yesterday, but still very nice. and the "cutting action" of the blade was hardly noticeable, even though this particular one is almost used up. wow. my shaves just keep getting better and better.

I haven't shaved in a couple days, so my skin in no way sore, and after using the Le Royale for a couple weeks now, it's been feeling pretty darn good. So tonight, I wanted to try an experiment, reduce my passes down to one and really go for it. So I thoroughly prepped, washed my face with Joel's Woolfat Soap, Kyle's Preshave Prep, rubbing the lather into my face for a good 2 minutes and a very hot towel for 3. Then I relathered and dove in head first. The shave is quite close and I'm not noticing any redness on skin thus far. I did get a quite a few little weepers, but nothing too bad. The real test will be in the morning. Will I pay for rushing into the ATG?

I really like it. It's small and compact/dense, so there's a fair bit of backbone to it which makes it good for lathering soaps. The waist below the beehive layers (if that makes sense) makes it easy to hold onto despite being so small. I don't have anything to compare it to really (except for my Simpson Major, which has an even smaller head.) This isn't a 'middle of the road' brush, but more a brush of extremes (small, dense) so it'll either be your cup of tea or not. :biggrin1:
