What do people think is their favorite almond SC?

I've tried a sample GFT Almond SC sample and liked it, and have a C&E soap cake and like it, but haven't tried anything else.

I'd also be interested in seeing what people have to say about this.

I have the C&E Sweet Almond Oil cream, and it's nice, although it's real almond oil, which doesn't quite smell like "almonds".

I smelled the T&H Almond cream, and it was really, really sweet - almost cloyingly so. I didn't buy it for that reason.

So, I guess I'd like something in between C&E and T&H. Anyone?

Edwin Jagger Shaving Cream = very sweet marzipan scent
Crabtree & Evelyn Sweet Almond Oil = marzipan scent
GFT Almond (soap) = dry almond scent (soapy scent)
DR Harris (soap) = very muted almond scent

My favorite is the C&E SAO, probably because I have used it for years.

I once tried eShave's Almond shaving cream. About 10 years ago. I had been using their rose cream, which was fantastic. The store was out, so I picked up Almond. Horrible experience. I skin was super-allergic to it. I had to give it away. So, have never gone near an almond cream again. I don't have any nut allergies, so it was surprising. Has anyone else experienced this?

I prefer GFT cream over C&E's. All-time almond favorite is D.R. Harris soap. Great scent, awesome shave, very traditional product.

I've been contemplating the DR Harris Almond soap. I have the Arlington, and it's my favorite soap (such as awesome performer). I'm not keen on the scent of the Marlborough, and lavender is always touch-and-go with me, so I've been considering the Almond. I was hoping it'd be a little sweeter than the C&E, but not as cloying as the T&H. Is that anywhere near the truth?

Sorry to hijack your thread, loueedacat, but I've been interested in this as well for quite a while. Thanks for asking!

Harris almond soap is not sweet, it's dry, muted, aristocratic. No marzipan but raw almond with some mild florals in the mix. All-in-all, it's a clean and soapy almond smell.

I've got two almond soaps, the C&E Sweet Almond Oil, which I find doesn't have a very strong almond fragrance but luscious lather, and the Col. Conk, which smells like I want to take a bite of it, but, being a glycerin soap doesn't have the same creaminess. I've been wanting to try the Valobra for a while now and will order it once something else runs out. Yeah, I know, some of you guys have dozens of choices in your rotations, but I think having four soaps and four creams open is enough for now.

You are not hijacking at all, and you are asking the same stuff I'm thinking, so no problem, and good to see for once that I'm not aksing something that's been answered eight million times! I shaved with the C&E almond soap this morning and it really is great - luscious lather, fresh feeling, great scent. And $5 to boot (though I haven't been able to find it lately).

How about this refinement of the question: what's the best sweet smelling almond soap or cream? I heard a vote for Conk. Anything more traditional that has that sweet marzipan/cherry twist to the almond?

I like the T&H for sweetness. TOBS is decent too, but not quite as sweet.

I like Salter's Almond SC. It's got a nice almond scent that lasts thru out the shave. I also have C&E Sweet Almond Oil SC but to me, it's scent smells a little too "soapy". Not really any Almond scent that I can detect.

C&E, D R Harris and ToOBS. All very good but different.

I have found the C&E to be quite pleasant, now that it has grown on me a little and don't have any other almond creams to cloud my senses. When I first used it I was not impressed with the scent, but now I really like it.

Great description.

I used to like really sweet smelling almond scents. Somewhere along the line this changed, and I found myself avoiding almond products all together.

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to smell the DR Harris Almond soap and absolutely fell in love with it. It is a very classy scent and not at all sweet. I find myself using it a couple of times a week.

TOBS is the only almond I've tried. I'm not crazy about it. Great lather, but not that great of a shave. Smell disappears too quickly too. :(

Love C&E SAO, when you take a whiff of the stuff it smells good enough to eat, in fact if I didn't know any better I probably would.

D R Harris almond cream is just superb stuff. Taylor's Almond is a close second. Not so keen on GFT Almond or C&E Sweet Almond scents, not quite what I expect for almond.

+1 on the Crabtree & Evelyn Almond Oil being a light scent. It makes up for in the glide and often is a welcomed change from the stronger scents I seem to prefer.

The C&E at Copley Place has both the SAO 3.5 oz tubes and the $5 pucks, as of Friday evening.
