So I've been lurking on the forums for a few days and have picked up a ton of information, and still got so much more to learn! I picked up a DE today, a Merker Non-Adjustable one, and I've had a brush and all the other equipment for awhile.
You guys seem to be a great community to learn from and I look forward to picking up all the shaving information available from all of you.
So in short: Hello. :)

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you're good to go. You've definately come to the right place. I'm sure you will enjoy your Merkur. Just a couple of questions?
Your first name? We're on a first name basis here.
What kind of blades have you got? While we're at it, what's the rest of your set-up?
Happy Shaving,

Happy Shaving,
Little Joe:
My first name's Adam and I'm from right outside of Boston, MA, just as a little background.
I ended up getting suckered into the $9 pack of Merkur blades at the Art of Shaving. I knew better, but oh well. I knew to throw out the blade that came with it, so I'm actually going to be trying out the razor tonight or tommorow morning.
As for the rest of my set-up...I have a basic badger brush from the Art of Shaving that I've had for about a year. I also have their 'starter kit' consisting of the Pre-Shave Oil (It irritates my skin so I don't use it...), another Brush (much tougher than the first one, don't use it), some shaving cream (good, I guess), and some after-shave (it's OK). I also have a wooden shaving dish and soap, both from the Art of Shaving. I picked up a tube of Kiss My Face Cream, but I'm not sure if it's the right kind, but I think it is.
To everyone else:
Thanks for such a warm welcome! Seems like a great community and I'm glad to have joined it! :)

Well I just completed my first shave...Amazing! I'm angry I didn't get into wetshaving with a DE before. Here's a quick rundown...
I showered and was going to shave right after, but I did a hot towel too just incase.
I made the lather using the Kiss My Face unscentedc cream. I had a lot of trouble because I didn't have a bowl to use, only a big coffee mug, so it was hard swirling the brush to make it. It seemed very very under-moisturized, but it workecd. I applied it and shaved with the DE...
I did 2 passes (both with the grain/down), and not a single nick! I was really suprised since I was prepared for one or two since it seems expected...but I didn't get any, which is good. I went against the grain under my nose, and didn't get a nick there either.
I applied some of my after-shave (with alcohol) since I don't have any other yet. I'll be grabbing a shaving bowl and non-alcohol aftershave in the next few days.
Thanks to all of you on the site and all the tutorials, I just had the best shave of my life! No wonder this is so much fun :wink2:
