I thought that since so many of us tend to enjoy shoes and socks that there needed to be a thread to showcase them off. I dont think it necessarily warrants a daily thread, but if we get enough posts perhaps it will I for one will try to post as much as possible.

Kool thread.

I am just now getting into decent shoes. These are what I wore yesterday, I do not know much about them. They are GR by Gordon Rush, got them from Nordstrom Rack for 100 bucks. They are stiched as opposed to glued so I figured they would last longer then the other shoes I have been buying.
I always like to wear fun socks though, yes those are Ninjas

And we do Jeans Fridays in my office so todays shoe of choice are my Iron Ranger boots.

A beautiful cool autumn day in Texas means I'm wearing my Red Wing 8111 Iron Rangers purchased in January 2012. I dropped by the Denton, TX Red Wing store this morning for a fresh treatment of boot oil and new laces (free as always).

I'm afraid to even go to his webstore. You know how many times I have had those double monk straps in my shopping cart? Too many.

Today, I am wearing one of my favorite walking shoes. This is a saddle shoe made by Johnston & Murphy circa the late-Nineties from a line that was known as their "Estate Collection" ( I also have the cap-toe version of this shoe.)

Comfortable beyond belief. These shoes are approximately 15 years old. When I do polish them, I use black shoe polish which gives it a nice antiqued patina. They have a rubber bottom but it appears to have been attached to a Goodyear welt. (Is that even possible? What do I know? )

I'm wondering if B. Nelson can put Dainite soles on these shoes.

Apologies Bob, I'll stop. You've almost got me liking the double monk.

I find that the RM Williams G fitting is just a little wider than the typical US D width. But because of where my foot "breaks" when I walk, I usually order a half-size up - a 12 instead of the 11.5 I measure.

Great looking chukka. Alden does a nice job with those. When I'm ready for a pair of chukkas, I'm thinking either the Ravello shell or the brown chromexcel by Alden which are offered by leathersoul. I like the Color 8 but I need a little variety color-wise.

YOu know, the finish on the No 8 does not seem to be holding up well. The boots are basically new, and the area around the seems, actually seems to be losing a layer so to speak. I was a bit disappointed in this. Im hoping when it is time for a touch of polish it will clear this up. BUt, one is not suppose to polish cordovan leather that ofter. It is recommended to be polished every 15-20 wears or there abouts.

Today - Johnston & Murphy Crown Aristocraft Collection

I've stated this before and I'll say it again but J&M made some quality shoes in the past. The shoe pictured below are a discontinued model from their Crown Aristocraft line from the early turn of the century. The leather is soft, the shoe is comfortable and it has a timeless style. Note the perfs on the sides. Very similar to the black pair of Aldens featured in the post above. When I bought these, the J&M store even changed the heel for me at no charge. I don't think they are providing that kind of service anymore. I could be wrong and if I am please say so.

http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=38809[/URL (http://[URL]http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=38809)]

In keeping with the J&M theme, after work, I put on these old J&M's. These are from another discontinued line (hey, what can I say? I'm old ) called the "Passport Collection". This is a shoe that was part of their FIC soles line. FIC meaning First In Comfort. Nice split toe and more importantly, comfortable.

I would easily place these shoes at approximately 15-20 years old.

Did you order the Alfred Sargent MTO's?

I did! Two weeks down, 14 to go. In the meantime, you've got me looking at monk straps again.

Your old Johnston & Murphy's make me nostalgic for when they made a good shoe.

I grew up wearing RM Williams boots, Henry and they are certainly fantastic. I have two pairs at the moment and wear them regularly.

They are fantastic! The style, craftsmanship and quality are top notch.

Wow...impressive shoes. Where did you manage to get your hands on those?

I have a Northampton contact, who actually sourced those for me - the price was way less than they commonly cost. I used to have a kind of an AD with shoes, Russian reindeer having been on my "bucket list" on those. They are very light, leather wrinkles in a good way via use (as visible), cannot be spit shined (using water or alcohol in shining process causes a white film to appear, don't know why) but they hold up very well - I've actually worn them to nightclubs etc. as I figured that people seldom give their RR's a thorough beating. I think that they'd go to waste if they'd never be worn (as some do) - they're actually great shoes for pretty much anything.

SWMBO has never nagged about my shoes. My budding shaving gear addiction, though, has caused some extensive eye rolling...

I'm currently hunting some NOS or near-mint Florsheim Royal Imperial / Imperial V-cleat longwings, both in grain calf and shell cordovan, size US 11 D. Anything but black (since in Finland black is a way overused shoe colour). They're shoes that are made to survive a nuclear holocaust.

Those AE Chromexels are beauties. Dainite sole or some other? An interesting choice of laces, although I think they should be nice when worn casually.

She probably understands a shoe AD, as many women seem to understand the need for multiple pairs of shoes for different outfits/occasions. Shaving, on the other hand... My wife currently lives in Scandinavia and it seems that, in this part of the world, if your razor doesn't use a battery your shaving habits are odd.

I typically only wear those boots with jeans, although on one occasion wore them with a suit due to the rain because of the rubber sole. The heel is wood blocked and the sole is leather but both are then topped with an AE rubber lug sole.

My wife currently lives in Scandinavia and it seems that, in this part of the world, if your razor doesn't use a battery your shaving habits are odd.

Well, it's not that bad - it's mainly about the availability of DE-kits etc. My GF stated - after seeing me lathering & using the brush - that she now knows why shaving is mentioned as a sexy activity in women's books (written in 60's and so on). I believe that she hasn't yet caught the idea about having some shaving gear from past aside my modern kit - after all, she got used to seeing my bathroom equipment consisting a toothbrush, deodorant, moisturizer, one EdT, canned goo and Fusion. It has now exploded into a barrage of cans (and a decision to get an own cabinet & leave the old for her stuff).

I typically only wear those boots with jeans, although on one occasion wore them with a suit due to the rain because of the rubber sole. The heel is wood blocked and the sole is leather but both are then topped with an AE rubber lug sole.

Ah, must check about that. As our competent cobblers are as nonexistent as our DE-shaving, I'm about to send a couple of pairs of my sh*tkickers over to England for resoling. We sell Sanders' shoes in our shop and a couple of shops in Helsinki sell AE & C&J, but that's about it for quality shoes in Finland. Your pair got me interested - again - about AE. I'd probably wear those with moss-green POW-flannels (with a brown overcheck).

However, my kicks for Tuesday:

Henry: An interesting lacing for balmoral boots. That gives them a bit "Victorian" vibe, I think, using that instead of the more common ladder lacing. Definitely a nice boot for colder days.

Today:

Loake MTO (after making the batch, they decided that next year tan shall be among their stock colours). Although some (and I) would say that Loake lasts lack some inner curvature to make them really stand out, they're still well made shoes - and very comfortable. Cheap, comfy and nice enough.

TRICKER'S jodphurs....They still creak! Not as bad but still creak..:glare:

I love Tricker's' shoes.

You could try this: Put the shoes on. Give them a thorough warm-up with a hairdryer (while standing), changing your weight from one foot to another. Concentrate on inner curve area and on the small toe area. That way the shoe forms on your foot (leather is a thermoplastic material). After that, let them cool down (while standing) and give them a thorough shoecare session (Renovator or other chosen cream and a good polish, finishing with nylons - yes, nylon pantyhose are actually the easiest way to a good shine. SWMBO shall donate her finished ones => wash & polish away). Use the cream especially on the inner side of straps. The improved fit should lessen the creaking rather dramatically.

My mother always told me that if someone's shoes creak, it means they aren't paid for yet!

Nice looking boot. I do like Trickers and have a couple of pairs of their country brogues in my collection.

Today I will be wearing some nondescript walking boots as I'm off with a friend fo a stroll up Broadway Tower nearby, an old folly. There will be mud!

I am currently trying to convince myself that I can afford a pair of the made to order William Lennon Derby boots from their little factory in Derbyshire. They get rave reviews on the Fedora Lounge website.

These are they, all traditionally built:

Not cheap at 158 but should last a lifetime. If you've not heard of William Lennon, here's their site http://www.williamlennon.co.uk/ It's the country footwear section you might be interested in. Of course you may want a pair of traditional foundry safety boots!

I really like the deep burgundy of those. I've never owned that color shoe as I tend to go for shades of brown, are they primarily worn with blue trousers or would they work with other colors?

I find that I wear them primarily with navy blue or gray. Nevertheless, I find this color to be very versatile.

Picked these up for a song. Can't believe how cheaply. They're my second pair of AEs, and may have to go grab a discontinued model whe they're still on sale. Now to get em broke in...
