Our cat discovered the alum block and, when I wasn't looking, took a few licks. Should I be worried?
She's also prone to playing in the sink when I have it full of water and expended soap/stubble.

I would definitely keep the straight razors locked up.

i have a friend who regularly shaves her cats (this is how they get lighter - get it?). she is allergic, and she feels like it helps them handle the texas heat better. i mention this, because my first thought on seeing the title of this thread was - Don't! my friend does at least use an electric shaver, i think a safety would be a bit much (and forget about a straight, lol)

I recommend you close the door with the cat outside. Most of them don't know how to open a door

Alum blocks are just a kind of salt, so I don't think there's any harm from a couple of licks. If you've ever mad the (mis)fortune of licking your lips after some alum-laced water drips down your face onto them, they just taste really salty.

Thanks. She didn't seem to mind and hasn't had any weird seizures or cat-on-crack jumping around fits, so I guess we're OK.
I don't think our cat would take well to being shaved...she thinks getting her claws trimmed is torture. Definitely keeping any straight razors out of her way. I usually keep the bathroom door closed but sometimes I want to let the steam get out of there. In comes the cat.
