It seems I've been here for a while lurking in the shadows.

I've been shaving with a DE razor for about two and a half years now and have gleaned a lot of information from this site. I originally signed up here to do a review on the (then) new Clubman shave cream (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=23289), but decided a review from a newbie might not be the most trustworthy.

I don't use anything too fancy just a 50's SuperSpeed and Gillette Tech, a Wal-Mart Van-Der Hagen brush, Prorasso, and William's mixed with Surry's glycerin soap. I'm thinking I might try something a little more luxurious like the QED Violetta order coming up, although I prefer the scent of rose. Maybe some Trumpers. Does QED still make rose? So much for getting into DE shaving to save money.

Up until about February I had been using the SuperSpeed with Williams and the Van-Der Hagen brush and still got a shave superior to the Mach 3 (and Sensor Excell) I'd been using since I was 12. With the Mach 3 I was always told not to shave against the grain, I knew this couldn't be true. Even today I hear from Salon's and so called internet experts that you shouldn't shave ATG. I guess the cartridge and canned goo mentality is so engrained in our culture that rather than changing your shaving style to get a better shave you're supposed to change the quality of your shave to compromise with your shaving style.

Welcome aboard.

ATG is a personal preference, it would seem. I normally forgo the ATG in favor of WTG and 2 XTG passes. If I do an ATG it is only after the other passes.

See you around the boards,
Daniel

But I'm sure Trumpers would be a good choice as well (I have no personal experience with it, but people seem to be generally positive about Trumper's soaps).

And after two and a half years of DE shaving with no purchases beyond a Superspeed, a cheap brush (I think?), and cheap cream and soaps I'm sure you've saved up more than enough to buy a puck of more expensive soap.

I'm guessing that means research and development. I've tried many products that I can find in my town...I've just never found them to be very satisfactory. Mostly shaving lubes, or I see a high end shave cream and buy it to only find out it's NON foaming. It's just now starting to get cold here (50F) and Prorasso is really starting to be quite a rush with the cold water pat after finishing. Although on the other side I once got an off brand of Bay Rum aftershave and holy crap my face felt like it was on fire. It smelled nice though.

I figure I buy my blades online, then why not my soap and brush. Although I may have to hold off on the brush for a while since I just got layed off.

It maybe that you have a very delayed case of RAD and new vistas are just aheadI'm guessing that means research and development.RAD is short for Razor Acquisition Disorder. Acronyms around here ending with AD usually stand for various acquisition disorders (when you're just hoarding some type of product). For a list of common (and less common) acronyms and abbreviations, see this (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Abbreviations) page on the B&B Wiki, we also have a smaller glossary (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Glossary) of some terms that come up from time to time.

Welcome to B&B!!! But please...don't call it "canned goo." I've found it can be offensive to those who don't know any better!

Nice to have you with us.
